I built me a 4x4 box stand because I wanted an "all day" stand and I froze my you know off last winter. I made a 4x4 base with treated 2x6s and planked it with 2x6s. I built the upper frame with treated 2x4s. I used metal strapping to secure the 2 sections. The windows are covered with flashing to keep the elements out and to keep the critters out in the off season. Each post sits in a post spike that is hammered 36" into the ground. I also added a cable that is attached in the center and swedged on an anchor that goes 36" into the ground covered by 80 pounds of sacrete. I padded the rails with 2" foam covered with marine grade nogahyde. I am putting an old office chair in there and a little propane heater. Gonna bring a bucket and my lunch. Plan on going in at 4 and out at 6:30. It is just tall enough inside for me to stretch my legs. I have also since finished painting it and those beans are chest high when I checked last weekend.

Hope to bust bullwinkle in this stand. If not, I'll sit there comfortably and watch movies.

Looks good.

Here is a small piece of advice because i built
a few just like that a few years ago.

Try to anchor it with some wire or cable to
the nearest tree to keep it stable. When it
is that narrow and tall plus a person in it
it gets unstable with a good wind.

Otherwise, good luck hunting out of it

It has 2 anchor systems. The posts sit in these post holders that are made of metal and have spikes on the end of them. They are hammered 36" into the ground and then the posts set down in them and bolted in. The second is a cable that goes to an augured eye bolt that is 36" long and has 80 lbs of concrete on top of it. The stand sits in a valley so that the straight line winds wont it it directly. It would take a tornado to knock it down.

Looks very nice. How much do you have tied up in it? I would like to build one similar.

I cost quite a bit. I built it in my garage over several months so as to sneak the cost under the wife radar ;\)

I used all deck screws which drove the cost up a bit. I bought them in small boxes and should have just bought the big bucket. If yo build it with nails, the nails will work there selves out when the wind moves it back and forth over time. Always use screws.

I guess I probably have about $800 in it. And about 40hrs of work. I took my time and I am not a master carpenter. I do allot of measuring 3 or 4 times.

I put the legs on it onsite. 4 of us stood it up and walked it back into the post holders. It is heavy but manageable.

You could buy something for about the same price or chyeaper but it wouldn't be built like you build one your self and of course when you build it, it feels more like yours. At least thats how I am about it. I love to build stuff.

If you are on a tight budget, you can spread it out. Allot of materials come into play I didn't originally think about like caulk, paint, padding for interior, etc. The longer it sits in the garage, the more that gets added I guess.

My next one will be a 4x6 or a 4x8 and I will build it onsite. It would be too heavy to stand up assembled.

It was a fun project.
