Ok, so last weekend went out and put up cams, stands, feeders, plots etc...
Came home with a kajillion bites around my ankles and various other parts!
About 99% sure it's chiggers....
HOW THE HECK DO I NOT HAVE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN! WHAT A PAIN!

Just looked it all up.... about 10 different web sites...
1. Sulfer in, on, around boots/socks when outdoors (I actually remember this from being a kid on a farm)
2. Take a BATH right after coming out of the woods. Takes about 4-5 hrs before they actually settle down and start feeding on you. (They actually feed on your skin not your blood)
3. Anti itch cream is the only treatment. Nail polish is an old wives tale. Itching gets worse over 2 days, then peaks, then goes away after about a week!
#3 is the reason why I was itching my butt off while I was sleeping last night. Thought I was going to wake up to a blood bath I was itching my ankles so much!
STUPID BUGS SERVE ZERO PURPOSE....
To those that are god believers.... why would god create such a menacing bug like chiggers, or ticks, or roaches. THEY SERVE ZERO PURPOSE!

We went to our lease and put out a trail cam on Sunday. My hunting buddy sent me a text Monday morning and said he was ate up with chigger bites. I raised my pants legs and sure enough I was too. Had he not told me, I dont know when I would have noticed. We have had problems with ticks in the last couple months but not chiggers.

Yeah, chiggers just got me this week. The big problem all summer was the ticks! I've never ever seen so many ticks in my life!
I got home Sunday evening and pulled up my pants legs and had 5 itty bitty ones attached to me and a huge one crawling up my neck!
When all said and done my wife found 10 of them on me!!
Needless to say I now know alot about lyme disease and the care/prevention/treatment of ticks!

Permanone will keep them off of you, but it's also important that you keep your shirt tucked in, as well as your pants tucked into your boots. If you go out in the woods in tennis shoes and jeans, you're just asking for trouble with those little guys. I spray Permanone all over my clothes, but especially around my belt line, and where my pants go into my boots. I-HATE-CHIGGERS!!! If you get a bad enough case of them, you can run fever as your body mounts an attack against them.

I have never used the Permanone brand, but I have used Sawyer brand Permethrin. Same active ingredient. Used it during Turkey season this year for ticks and chiggers. I will not be going in the woods without it. Great product!! BPS sells it, sometimes Wal Mart.

Do not spray Permanone on your clothes without giving it enough time to dry before putting them on. It is meant to be used as a clothing treatment, not like Off is used. I always place waider bands around my pants, then put my boots on. This way my pant legs stay tucked in my boots and the chiggers would have to go down into the boot, about face and try to make it past the band and the top of my socks to get to my skin. Of course a good spraying on top of all that defeats them altogether.

I do some work for Wisconsin Pharmacal Company(The makers of Repel). Permanone is the way to go. It will work up to two weeks and through a few washings.

Another thing that has helped me is wearing under armor clothing. I have not had more than 2 ticks on me from my ankles to my neck in the last 3 years.. It really does a good job on keeping them of your body. Still have them on your clothing of course and really feel them on your neck, but hardly ever one attached on your torso.

Try PreparationH for the bites. Strong anti-inflammatory!
Good luck.
Epson salts good too.

I was in one club that I couldn,t step out of truck, I,d get chiggers. We tried ever thing under the sun to get rid of those pest. My wife went to the local drug store, the druggist told her to buy lice shampoo. I thought she had lost her mind when she came in saying lather up in this. I had to stand for about 5 minutes in the shower all lathered in that stinking stuff. Brother I didn,t have a chigger one the next day.

Permanone is the way to go. For those who use Permanone, is there any smell once it is dry? Do you ever "feel" the chemical bothering you (absorbing through your skin and such)? FWIW, I hate chiggers and Seed Ticks!
In short, Permanone is the single most important thing to get pre-season. No smell once it is dry, no irritation from the chemical, not even when I am holding my gloves or hat in my mouth doing something. It even lasts for several washes through the washing machine and dryer. I swear it is a miracle.
Lay out your clothes on some garbage bags, or hang them up, and spray them down. Don't have to get them soaked, just damp or moist. I spray my shirts, pants, socks, underwear, neck-gaitor, gloves, and hat. Let them dry undisturbed overnight.
I had a bad allergic reaction to chiggers once, and I don't want to visit that experience again. In the five or six years I have been using Permanone, I HAVE NOT HAD EVEN ONE CHIGGER BITE!!! I did go out once in clothes untreated scouting and got several bites, and I was just walking around.
One Wal-Mart didn't have it, another one did (I bought 6 bottles just in case I can't find it again), so check around.

Sawyers is the only way to go IMO. The place I hunt is eaten up with seed ticks! Spray this stuff on your hunting clothes and let it air dry for 12-24 hours. Dries pratically odorless and bonds to the molecules in the material. When I hunt I just spray down real good with scent killer, and no problems!! Just this weekend had a 6pt and three does 10yds from the stand and dead down wind. Didnt smell it at all! Better than getting eaten alive!! Good for chiggers and skeeters too!!!

go to tractor supply and buy one of the 8 oz. bottles of 10% permethrin. cut it with water and you have enough bug spray for the rest of your life.

In short Permanone is the way to go.. Just make sure you use it on your clothes only. Not your skin, and another trick i do is get some camo duct tape and tuck your paint legs inside your boots and tape up the top of the boots to the paints and that helps seal out any little critters that might slip in the gaps

Permanone is great if you have time to think about it beforehand and spray your clothes down. I sprayed down once and apparently didn't allow some of it in a seam to dry long enough and I had a red burning spot on my knee soon after. Trick I've always used is to taper my pants at the bottom with an elastic band, put my boots on and spray around the outside with bug spray. They have to make it through the spray, down my boot, under my pants and up over my sock before they get to me. Haven't had one get on my legs in 5 years doing it that way.

Avon Skin so Soft also works for skeeters. Also sage fresh if you can get it works for flees, ticks and chiggers.

I have been a Land Surveyor since 1973, back then we learned to spray ankles, boots, jeans from boots to knees, waist band and wrists with any type of "Off" brand produce, I can not tell you the last time that I had a chigger, its just not that difficult to prevent the problem, you are reading to much into the problem

Okay, I don't mean any disrespect but I've been dying to ask this...regular below the knee ones or thigh-highs or full body; and I'm actually asking a serious question as weird as it may sound? LOL

And I'm assuming that fishnet stocking are totally out of the question, no matter how sexy they make a man feel when he's in the woods, right?

I went in the woods yesterday and tried the Deep Woods Off for the first time. Not one bite from chiggers yet......I think the key was that I sprayed my inside leg up to my knee cap. I also sprayed my sock and outside pants.....Finally no more chiggers.....

I used the OFF because I got ate up the last few weeks checking my cameras...Same area and the OFF did the trick.....At least for me....

Check out the Cabelas BugSkinz. They are basically a heavy-duty camo set (tops and bottoms) of nylon pantyhose type material where the mest is so small that the chiggers and seed ticks can't get to your skin to bite. I have a set of Rhinoskins (same stuff) that I wear during turkey and early archery season. It is hot, but worth it for the extra protection from the ticks.
Permanone is the key for both ticks and chiggers. Spray your clothes down well and you can just about forget about them.

im going to try the permanoene, but after your already bit i have just found that ammonia rubbed on with a cotton ball helps alot with the itching. Put it on about three times a day for 4-5 days and life isn't so uncomfortable. And you may not have chiggers the seed ticks I've been haveing problems with are so tiny you almost need a magnafing glass to see them. I seem to have more problems when i get in the cedar tree areas. hope this helps and good luck!

Remember 'Permanone' is simply the brand name. Any product that contains the active ingredient Permethrin will be effective against ticks of all variety, chiggers, and mosquitos.

When I get chigger bites and the itching is the worst I get into a hot tub which makes it painful but when I get out the itching and pain is gone for a day. This gets me a day closer to the bites going away.

Always tuck your pants into your boots and like it or not, wear dog flea and tick collars on your ankles. They are not dangerous to humans and work like a dream. I simply cannot hunt turkey without them, I can't take the itching, causes me to act crazy. And no, I feel no urge to bark or pee on fire hydrants.

This is the safe stuff. Pyrethrin. Makes 8 gallons for $15. Repel has Permethrin which can be toxic.
The difference being Pyrethrin is a natural extract from the chrysanthemum plant, and will not harm mammals, fish, or, birds. Permethrin belongs to the family of synthetic chemicals called Pyrethroids. It is extremely toxic to fish and cats, and has been linked to poisoning dogs as a flea/tick repellent. It is not as environmentally safe to use as Pyrethrin. Therefore, it is not the same thing.

If you are hit with chiggers use ChiggerRid. I got some and it works, but only after you have been attacked. Permetherine is the best solution to stopping them.

Most likely not chiggers - likely seed ticks. Permethrin for either. Other deet stuff like Off will not work.
