I have driven by a few times and would like to try fishing it. Are outboard motors allowed on it?

Yes. Part of it is in TN, the other part in NC. As long as you are fishing from a boat, either license is good. Full of trout.

Fished it once a long time ago (2003) .... caught trout on crickets fished under floats beneath overhanging branches... just like we were bluegill fishing. We didn't catch big numbers... but it was fun.

Did catch a couple up toward the headwaters casting typical trout spinners and spoons.

Pictures have been nuked, but here's the article I wrote: http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_40308.asp

Thanks for that, Richard. I haven't fished Calderwood but I've always wanted to. It's tough to find information, and I don't know a lot about stillwater fishing for trout.

Does anybody know which of the trout reservoirs up there is the best? Not sure, but I think the choices are Calderwood, Chilhowee, or Cheoah (???).

BD,

I've never fished Cheoah, but Calderwood has better trout fishing than Chilhowee. It also has few recreational boaters, too cold, limited access. I don't hardly ever fish it in the summer anymore. I got caught behind a fatality on the dragon and spent the day parked on the road trying to get home.
