Well I have never been trout fishing before and really have no idea how to go at it. What are some of the better baits? I have read some information on websites and it looks like small spinners and flies are good choices. Does anyone have any other baits they use?

Small spinners are a good choice, you should also try berkley power bait or canned corn. I put a small sinker about a foot above the hook. the powerbait floats so it won't be on the bottom.

I guess it depends on where you are going...I trout fish in northern Michigan on the Pere Marquette river and small Panther Martins, Little Cleos are the ticket...down in TN where I fish Super Dupers work and the others don't....If you are fishing with non artificial bait then worms and corn!

Tell us where you are going and we can tell you what baits work the best for that particular river or stream.

I'm going to one of the creeks on Ft. Campbell. I don't know the name of the creek or much of anything else about it. I'm just excited about getting to go fishing. Catching one will just be a bonus.

I'm not familiar with Ft. Campbell (but I'm sure others on here are), but when I fish the creeks of the GSM, roostertails work real well. For a first timer fishing a creek, salmon eggs and corn should work well. Use a small hook. Good luck.

Really cant go wrong with a roostertail. My goto color is without a doubt black with a gold blade. Also do pretty good on white or a color they call rainbow fry. I use 1/16 oz most of the time. Also, small spoons like a little cleo will do well as well as small countdown rapalas ( I use the CD 3 model).

Rooster tails are good. Probably use a 1/16 oz. on small creeks like Ft Campbell. This time of year it's warm and the trout will be concentrated in the deep holes, looking for cool water from springs.

If they won't chase a rooster tail, try dead drifting a trout magnet jig through the hole.

Fly fishing is also very effective on the creeks, but that's a whole other addiction.

If there are any browns try a crawdad tail on the bottom of deep holes. Put a split shot a foot or so above it. Power bait, sweet corn, and worms are great for rainbows but they will swallow the hook most of the time which is ok if you want to keep. I like to use a barbless rooster tail sometimes when i just want to catch as many as possible
