Thanks for all the imput. I have a 96 Key West flats boat.

I have a triple bank charger. Two @ 5A going to the trolling motor batteries and one 2A going to my ACC (and backup) battery. I will individually charge the starting motor battery from time to time.
So I have 4 batteries on board. A little paranoid about going out into a big bay/low country, or big lake around here and not having enough juice to get me home.

I don't have on deck charging capability.

My Wally Worlds are right at 3 years old. I could have done better watching the water. I did let one go down on water before I got off my lazy butt and looked at it. I normally plug them in overnight. Too much, too little? Other battery tricks there Bowriter?

Thanks again for the help. Any suggestions would be welcomed in my current arrangement. I am currently running three batteries under the seat and one in the back(starter). I am going to transfer thet trolling ones up front to displace some weight since my big butt adds additional weight to the stern. I have hydraulic trim tabs so it jumps up on plane in about 10ft. despite the weight.

I have Optima batteries on my boat and love and trust them. They are expensive, but very well worth it IMO. Mine are 4 years old and I can fish and troll hard for two days without recharging before they need to be recharged.

the walmart batteries have served me well. i got 6 years out of the last one and am on the 5th year for the current one.lasts all day bowfishing where you are constantly on the trolling motor on high or 2 days or more of just fishing with it in the mid-ranges. slow charge them for 16-24 hrs.

I have tried lots of different batteries but the high end A/C Delco have been the best at lasting and run time.

Wish you'd post last week. I just give a good deep cycle away to neighbor. I traded up from a 1760 Key West to my 2360 Sailfish boat and it has 4 batteries and didn't need the other. Sorry brother. Check AutoZone. they had a sale the other day. Not sure if still going on.

Can't believe someone is as crazy as me to own a flats boat in TN, or did you just keep it in Juniper! What year was yours, and did you have all four batteries in the back or split 2 & 2 bow and stern?

How was the tarpon run this year around Juniper. I originally bought the boat to learn how to tarpon fish, but have been stuck on the redfish and seatrout since I got it. It is just about, I hope, with all kinks worked out now to take to FL sometime for some snook and tarpon.

Interesting. I went to Orange Beach w/ the family this summer & was thinking about taking my boat this fall or at least next year. I'll have to look you guys up for some advice on redfish & trout. Thanks for the battery thread it's about time for some new ones.

AsaltWPN1 - Jupiter High School graduate here, class of 1978. Amazingly small world. When I moved to this area 11 years ago I sold my flats boat figuring to go with a bassboat. Wish I had it still, it would be useful. Then again I love my Stratos. I really looked hard at the dual purpose boats since I still have in-laws in Destin.
I have not been back to Jupiter, other than to bury parents, since I left. I can't stand to see the way it is now as compared to the paradise it was when I was a kid. My parents never went to the freezer to find it empty of fresh snook, redfish, stone crabs or lobster. I miss that more than you know.

Hey Buccaneer and 7mm08, Yes Jupiter is changing. I was only there for a few yrs and now prob here for good. Got a grandson up here now. I miss my small boat too but wife said she was tired being off-shore 20 miles in a 17 fter. I saw no problem though. Well maybe in 4-6's, depending on the winds. Now I'm up here with this big twin engine running around. I bought it in Orange color, so I just change flags, Gator or UT, depending on where I am. People can be just right mean when I throw up the wrong flag!!! Wife says I do it as a conversation piece.lol Sure miss chasing the phins and cobia off Jupiter. Going in few weeks and taking boat maybe permit and cobia are hitting. If you guys around Tim's look me up.

Asalt - Keep flyin' the Gator flag. It drives my neighbors wild. However I will admit I had to get some UT garb since my youngest son went through ROTC there and graduated last year. Got us a new 2nd LT Airborne Ranger on his way to the 2nd Batallion 503rd Infantry in Vicenza Italy. The Older son went Marines, currently at Quantico as an SS School instructor. Semper Fi, enjoy your trip to FLorida. If I ever land my dream job at the JD Distillery, I'll meet you on Tim's!
