Hello guys, I wanted to ask anyone who fishes/has fished at Old Hickory or Cheatham Dam what instruction you could give me. I have fished neither of these dams but would like to give one or both a try this week or next b/c JPP isnt generating. I would mainly like to catch some catfish and maybe striper if theyre bitting. Which side of the dam would you fish, how close to the boils, and anything a newcomer should know to be successful at these dams.

btw I will be fishing from the bank

Thanks alot yall

Best access is off of 249, Lock A road, Johnsons Creek follow the signs.

Cheatam best with 1 generator. Be there 45 minutes before sunrise. It can be over at sunrise. If the shad are there it is on. If not may as well go home.

There are 2 very diverse groups of fisherman. The locals who primarily fish topwaters throwing pencil poppers, etc. Looking for a fish to surface and casting to it. This is done mainly off the rock point, middle staircase.

Non locals who are fishing for food and keeping everything they can close to the dam. They are using shad on a 3 way rig fished on the bottom. They also will throw a large Rapala on the 3 way and get it to the bottom, seen a lot of fish caught this way.

You can also catch them on Storm plastics.

Leave the attitude at home. Lots of crossed lines, etc. This is combat fishing at its finest.
Thought I was gonna see a guy in a boat get shot a couple years ago. He was over the fish and wasnt gonna move until about 30 1 oz. Pencil Poppers started bouncing off his boat. He got the message pretty quick. Threatened to come a shore and settle it but he made a wise decision and left.

Dont know about Old Hickory or the catfish.

You go fish below those dams from the bank and you will understand.

I was there Saturday and will be again this weekend. I got plenty of sinkers and a slingshot if the ground war on the bank breaks out.
