I live in Lafayette and I haven't heard anything about it. It would be nice if they had one.

There is a range there. Take 141 south out of Hartsville. Turn right onto cemetary road just on south side of town. Take road to boat launch. Range is in that area. Im not sure how well maintained it is. I have not had a chance to really look it over. It appears to be trails as well with some targets. Anyone know any more???

That range is owned by the Corps of Engineers. There was a club there once upon a time. But it failed. The range was left to it own devices. Nature and vandals took over. I doubt much is being done with it now. If you are interested, contact the Resource Managers office in Hendersonville (615) 822-4846. That is on Old Hickory Lake.

I do know the previous resource Manager recently retired. I don't think they have replaced him as of yet. But someone should be filling in. I you are willing to take the course on as a personal project or start a club there, that is who you will need to talk with.

I live close to Westmoreland. About 5 years ago, I was in an outdoor club from Macon Co.. We decided to have a 3-D shoot at the Hartsville facility, to raise money for our "Christmas for the kids" program. We contacted the Corp of Engineers. We were told, as I recall, that if we would get the facility back into "shape"; and if we had a certain number of events, then the Corp would help to maintain it in the future. Well, a handful of us took to the challenge. With chainsaws in hand and a great cause as our mission; we spent the better part of a weekend clearing between 15 to 20 target areas. A friend of mine, who used to be president of a 3-D archery club in Southern Ky., loaned us enough 3-D targets to have the shoot. We had it 1 week later, and we actually had a strong turnout. We made enough money (combined with other monies we had raised) to spend $50 each on 50 underpriveleged children in the greater Macon Co. area that Christmas. Unfortunately, some of the members lost interest later and the club folded. That still bothers me. We never had another shoot, so we never got to see how committed the "Corps" would have been. I'll tell you this, it is an awesome spot for a 3-D shoot. If you go out to the launching ramp and look really close on the left hand side of the road; you should be able to find the signs that show the starting and exit signs for the archery range. The course is shaded throughout. There are hardwoods, as well as, pine stands along the course. Shots may range from 10 to 50+ yards, depending on where you set the targets. I would love to see that old range revised once again............and I would be willing to help a dedicated group see it through!!
