Still can't cast my 8wt. Can't pull the cord on my motor to start my boat either. I'm afraid I'm out due to injury this year.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever!
I only use a 6-wt., and I caught my first 20 or so carp on a 5-wt. before I owned anything else (during the great cicada hatch of '98). Most of my casts are less than 10 feet.

On the flip side, it is a veritable truth that a carp man gets in his excuses early.

My particular whine is that I'll be getting married July 18 and then on my honeymoon and won't get to go acarpin' much. I will probably get in one trip before hitchage and maybe one after (if the new wife allows it ).

Brian, this is your year, my friend. I submit to a better carp man (as long as I'm bonefishing in the Bahamas \:D ).

Hot Dawg!

Can't wait to get ahold of one of those "nasty lookin' things"... This year is gonna be -my- year. Unless, of course, someone else enters.

I use a six weight... nothin' to it. You can get lots of pratice by hooking the end of your fly line to your riding lawn mower, then playin' it in as it drives riderless, willy-nilly around the yard. It's about the same as playing a carp...

Now, that right there is road kill! \:D

Drum are legal and are often "ugliest fish" candidates as well as "smallest fish." What's that other term they call drum down in LA (Terrier or Bowriter help me out)? Gabbergoo or somethingorother?

Man, I love that one. I guess they're all ugly, but I think your mirror carp is WAY cool. I caught a buffalo that sort of looked like a mirror, but I'm not sure I've ever caught a true mirror.

Today's the last day to battle the majestic carp.

I went out yesterday and got lucky from the get-go. I caught this buffalo and went home. It went about 22 pounds.
Caught on a big soft hackle on top in a foam line (scum line). We'll see soon who gets the honored carp jacket.

I guess it would be very picky to point out that a buffalo is NOT a carp??? Isn't that like weighing in a catfish in a bass tournament.

Maybe a name change is in order to "Rough Fish on the Fly Tournament."

A Gasper Gou isn't a carp, either... But they count!

Come to think of it, a Red Horse counts, too.

- Common Carp
- Buffalo Carp
- Red Horse
- Drum

I'm not exactly sure about the whole board yet, but the results should be in a newsletter coming soon. The big banquet is this Thursday so I'll definitely know then. I will report when I get the exact list.

I was going to enter last minute and fish the last weekend in July to at least get on the board, but I got diagnosed with swine flu the week before. No joke. I didn't get out of bed for four days straight. I just couldn't catch a break this year.

I will be gunning for you next year though, Gil.

Edit - by the way, Jack, you got ROBBED in the "ugliest" category! That fish of yours is the ugliest carp I have ever seen in my whole entire life.

I was wondering where you were in all this... Thought maybe you were sandbagging this year. Sorry you were ailing.

And you're right. Never fails. I'm doomed to never win anything or get any decent prizes from this thing. It's a plot, really. ;\)

Dayum, man! R U serious? You're the first I've heard of to get the pig virus. Hope you're okay. If you had been well this year, you would have kicked my fanny. You really ought to come to the banquet tomorrow night anyway, maybe give them $10 to eat and enjoy the party. I haven't been able to go in years because I'm usually on vacation, so I'm pumped to be able to make it.

Jack always gets robbed. He's still ticked because he thinks his screensaver is the prettiest carp ever, and he didn't win anything for it.
