I'll be floating a stretch with the Gheenoe (canoe) in Maury county to do some smallie fishing . Wish me luck . I'm taking a spinning rod with a tackle box full of spinners , jerkbaits, and soft plastics.
I might take the flyrod too , gil . \:\)

Good luck, and be carefull... I fished from 6 pm to 2 am last night on Tims Ford. It was kinda slow after dark. We ended you with 3 nice smallies.

Lord, Scott, I talk a big mess about fly fishing, but I often back my fly gear up with some pretty big conventional tackle. Some of my biggest smallies on the Duck have been on Carolina-rigged lizards and brush hawgs as well as pretty big jigs. I've had even better luck with live minnows and a circle hook (so they don't get gut-hooked and I can toss them back).

I want pictures! Good luck!

I'm not sure if I want to take a flyrod or camera . I'm just trying to consolidate some of my tackle so I have less to lose incase we capsize . \:\)

The Gheenoe did very well today . We only got into one strainer but the boat stayed upright . I had a rookie in the front and he did quite well paddling and catching fish .
We had one incident when I landed a smallie for him and the treble hook ended up buried past the barb near my index finger nail with the fish hanging off the end . We had to take the hook off the lure and cut the barb off and continued to fish .
I'm so tired after the long trip paddling all the way that I'm heading to the walk in clinic tomorrow to get the barb removed . We tried every secret trick to get it out ,and it would not come out . I hope doc can get it out without cutting too much of my finger .

ouch. been there-done that. the guy in panama city knew what he was doing. he numbed my finger then took a hypo needle and ran it down beside the hook, putting the hollow needle over the barb of the hook and pulling both out at the same time. he said he gets 3 or 4 hook removals a week in the spring/summer.

I had a nurse practitioner remove the hook this morning in the ER by cutting behind the barb and pulling it straight out . I think the shot in my hand to numb the pain hurt more than having the hook in my finger . It's still numb and I can't use my left hand yet because of the swelling and numbness .
I have another float trip planned for next week . \:\)

They were mostly small . I'm going to float some different areas the next time . Too many slack water areas in the stretch we floated .

I didn't take pictures .
My friend caught a smallie and I landed it without a net . I got it in the boat , only to end up with a Rapala in my finger and the smallie still hanging on the lure . It was shaking around and heavy enough to drive the treble hook past the barb and deep into my finger next to my finger nail .
It felt like my finger was being hit with a hammer . I felt better once we got the hook cutoff and I continued to fish . I figured I would wait to go to the ER this morning . I was too tired out last night to sit in the ER .

Hey, Radar. Glad to be seeing more of your posts. \:\)

Just wondering - How long did the float take from Chickasaw to Williamsport? I think that's about 9 river miles if I remember correctly. I'm going to try that soon. We've floated another section of the Duck a couple of times. We haven't done great yet but it looks promising when we get to know the water better.

Glad the hook removal went well. A word of caution to everyone about that - I had a similar thing happen to me. The ER Dr told me that he had recently had a guy come in one evening after fishing all day with a hook that had embedded in the heel of his hand early that morning. By the time the fisherman came to the ER the hook had worked its way down so deep that the ER Dr could not cut it out. The poor fisherman had to have a surgeon remove it to prevent nerve damage.

Oh well, we're guys - danger is part of the fun.

It is 12 river miles and it took about 10 hours to float . We almost bit off more than we could handle that day because the current was slack for long stretches and we had to paddle the entire way . I'm going to try a different section and use my trolling motor next time for the slack water sections .
The hook worked it's way farther into my finger too .
