My son caught his first ever walleye below Normandy a couple weeks ago and is now hooked himself! We caught a few late in the afternoon on top water lures.

Anybody got some tips on any decent areas (bank fishing) around Mid TN (we're in LaVergne) and bait preference?

Thanks

I can't give you any info, but I am asking for some. lol You were catching walleyes in the Duck river below Normandy dam on top? Right below the dam? I've caught rainbows, kentuckies, smallies, bluegills, black nosed crappie, and even a yellow perch there, but it never occured to me that it was also walleye water. What type of top water lures were you using? I live too far away to seriously fish it, but I have a daughter who lives in South Williamson county, and I have gone below the dam every now and then when I visit her.

I fish them in winter after dark a the tailwaters of dams. Slow retrieve a #13 Rapala along the riprap.

I only caught a few in summer time, by accident.

They are definately around, but are tough to find when not in their spawning run. They could be deep along dropoffs, like smallmouths, or they could be schooling and cruising for schools of shad like hybrids or stripers. Two most popular rigs are jigs and nightcrawlers down deep, or trolling nightcrawler harnesses or crankbaits in open water.

I've caught them on fly fishing gear (weighted streamers) while bass fishing on Old Hickory, and a buddy caught one on spinning gear while trout fishing the Caney Fork at the I40 rest area.

Center Hill Lake and Rock Island area are quite good.

We were about 150 yards below the dam, using floating minnow lures. Just a good jerk and about 3 second crank taking the slack up slow, jerk and crank.

We were mainly catfishing (never caught one) until we saw a guy right up from us catch a walleye on the top. He pulled it out and kept saying it was a trout. I asked him if it had teeth and he said "Oh yeah, all them with teeth are trout."

Oh well, at least we caught a few walleyes! Good fighters.
I'm just wondering how much of the Duck has 'em.
