It was 8 inches long. I think it is a Green Sunfish but I have never seen one that big. My daughter caught it on Old Hickory and was hoping it might be a TARP fish.

Probably a hybrid between a green and another sunfish. Greens are notorious for hybridization.

Not a warmouth - not speckled enough. Should be more mottled like a crappie.

Tooth patch? (touch your finger inside of its mouth, feel where a tongue would be and feel either or smooth or sandpaper).

Regardless, nice fish-

Most of the swamp warmouths that I have seen are usually a little browner, and not as green as that one, but that's what it is.

My thoughts too but with that big mouth I would have to agree on warmouth.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning toward warmouth now too. Either way there is not a TARP for it. My daughter is disappointed. It was a hoss.

It's a warmouth. Rock bass are similar but lighter colored and more greenish, like this:

Also note that the rock bass(picture) has 6 anal fin spines, whereas the warmouth(original picture) has 3.

Cant you also tell if it is a warmouth by two or three spines and the front of the anal fin (I think its the anal fin at the bottom rear),

Tooth patch = warmouth

No tooth patch = a green sunfish hybrid.

Of course, what would I know. Ets gave me a B+ with an 89.9 avg.

I did get a card trick named after me though.

I struggled to earn my C in his class. It was all my fault though. Dave was an awesome dude though.
