Steal you wifes pantyhose, fill with rock salt and tie to a tree. We do this at a spot in Grainger county. Got a hole big enough to sit a recliner in. We have actually watched the deer crawl into the hole to get to the bottom!

I got a hole big enough to drive a Volkswagen into.

I have used this method for quite some time now but I use an old grass sack. I have also bought salt blocks at co-op and buried them in the ground. Deer find them in just a matter of days, works great.

wish I would have thought about this thread last week...I got a new lease(finaly a long term one) and started a salt lick this past weekend.... I figure the rain this week if it comes will soak it in the ground good.. the pant ideal will help to keep it active I guess. I am going to try it next time I go. with some mineral salt I had planned on dumping...

Try the 650 bagged cattle mineral from Co-op. It has salt plus minerals in quantities very similar to the high priced bagged deer minerals from Imperial Whitetail. I've used this for years and the deer hit the licks heavily from April through September. I just pour about 10 lbs at a time on the ground or on an old stump. I refresh them every six weeks or so after starting them in late February or early March and recharge them a final time in late August or early September. I have seen deer use the licks as late as October.
