2006 553 birds checked in.

2007 561 birds checked in.

2008 477 birds checked in.

2009 415 birds checked in.

that is 146 birds less or 36 percent decrease. That is alarming to me.

Numbers I figured up for my county.

2006 Adults= 198
2007 Adults= 186
2008 Adults= 165
2009 Adults= 145

That is a 26 percent decrease in longbeard harvest.

2006 Jake=19
2007 Jake=17
2008 Jake=20
2009 Jake=36

That is a jake harvest of nearly DOUBLE what it was 4 years ago! While the turkey population is plummetting.

This alarms me as a landowner in this county, I will not stand by and see our turkey population shot to nothing because nothing will be changed at the state level.

Look at Hardin County Numbers
2006 Total - 767
2007 Total - 557
2008 Total - 496
2009 Total - 436

43 % decrease but Its has already been said that no changes recommended for the upcoming season. Unbeleivable.

I will admit i bought into the 4 bird limit idea. I loved it at first got to hunt more and kill more turkeys. Now i see that it is not good in the long run. They can say what they want to about the limits but hunting started declining as the limits were raised.

As I've stated earlier, kill numbers are only an INDIRECT indicator of the population. The actual population in many areas has declined even more than the percent harvested. I'm hosting about a fifth of the total population I had back in the late 90's.
