Yep, caught them from 2 to 23 pounds on 8 pound test line.

Not sure what problem you would have casting a 1/4 oz lure with 6 or 8 pound test line, especially with a spinning reel. Sounds like a reel or spool issue to me, more so than a test issue.

Man, I have GOT to get up there and get in on some of that action.

And, yeh, Ruger, I'm sort of thinking that the line is a secondary problem. Either a reel/spool issue, or possibly the rod is too stiff. That's why I asked about that.

As far as lines breaking, I've read experts that claim that a fish never breaks a line; the fisherman does. I don't know if I take that totally literally, but the point is certainly valid. Your catfishing experience is a good case in point.

also if you had some of the "cheapo" mono, it was probably too stiff. buy a good quality(stren...)line. i have caught hybrids up to 16 lbs. and carp( how i learned how to handle big fish on light line) approaching 30 lb. on 4 lb line. you will get better action from your lures and more bites with the lighter line.
experienced hunters know its not just a bushy white tail, its a big middle finger.

nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught
