Went out today and heard one gobble on the limb and that was it. Usually they are tearing it up but this morning was dead. Last time I went, about a week ago, I heard 4 different birds and killed one. This morning sucked!

Since I am tagged out I have been taking folks and they burned it up this morning in the rain, called in a magnificent 4 or 5 year old mtn bird for a buddy of mine that sported 1 3/8" spurs. Still with hens and even fought off a subordinate bird to make sure he had the mystery hen all to himself. It cost him.

I love the late season, it is by far much better then mid season and even early season. Folks who don't hear much gobbling late season have more then likely pressured birds too hard over the course of the season or killed most of the dominant birds on a piece of property.

IMO the season should end a week later in this part of the state and start a week later as well. At least for the higher elevation bird hunters.

We hunt about 2 or 3 weekends on our leases and it isusually 2 people per lease so we don't pressure them to much and they just stop gobbling late in the year.maybe the mountain birds are a few weeks behind because of the elevation.

hunted yesterday from 5-12- only heard one bird gobble 4 times on roost! That was it- everything has greened up so much its hard to move through the woods! Late in the year is never very good on my farm!
