Well, not exactly, but a painful puncture wound nevertheless. I killed this one at 10 minutes til 3 this afternoon, and while shifting him back and forth trying to carry him, a spur penetrated the fleshy part of my left index finger. Hurt and bled pretty good. This one had 1 1/4 inch spurs, curved and very sharp. Also a 10 1/2 inch beard. Us old guys need protection(from ourselves, mostly).

Always pick them up between the spur and the foot, or use a carry rope.

Sorry about your hand but congratulations on the bird. \:D

I'll take a jabbing once in a while to get a good set of spurs. Good bird.

You know, the older you get the more loogsy goosy you get about routine chores(I've never been much of a glove wearer, and my hands look like I have been a pit bull trainer all of my life). I wouldn't know how to act if I didn't have one or more wounds on my hands at all times! lol

Congratulations, 4!

Well, and sorry about the battle wounds.

This is a great reminder to all of us.

It's not like I've killed a ton of birds, but I know dern well to watch out for spurs. Nonetheless, I got spurred pretty good just a few years ago.

I get so excited that I can't think straight. Sort of like folks shooting a deer and walking straight out of their deer stand into mid-air or chasing a downed turkey with a loaded shotgun (safety off).

We all need to make a conscious effort to keep the dingleberry factor at bay.

A good idea. However, like Gil says, if we could just think we would never have a problem. However, with me, at any rate, that ain't never gonna happen. lol
Besides,I have been fairly lucky by hunting pasture edges, particularly this late in the season when they are wearing the bugs out. So, I normally just drive my vehicle to the bird and load him in. However, the rains this week have washed out my first culvert which means, until I can repair it, its walk, carry, or don't hunt.
