Well, I roosted the bird on Wednesday evening. After figuring out on my map the best way to him, I set out early the next morning so to be there in plenty of time. He was the first bird to gobble and he was roosted up on top of the ridge just over the break. I eased in to about 35 yards from the top of the ridge before flydown. I was afraid other birds may bump but it worked out none were there. I setup behind a downed tree and waited for him to pitch down. When his gobbling became muffled I purred and clucked with a response from him. I never yelped one time the whole hunt. I purred a few other times and he went quiet. Next thing I know he is looking from top the ridge in my direction at 40 yards or so just standing there. I am in no position to move the gun on him so I just freeze. He gobbles one time and walks behing a large oak. I readjust my gun to the spot at the tree and I wait and I wait and I wait! It was about 5 minutes before he gobbled again. This time he was in the same direction but further over the ridge. I purred one more time and began scratching leaves. The next thing I see is his fan and then the top of his head. He strutted to the break of the ridge and I gave him one cluck to get his head up and KABOOM! I was totally pumped when he hit the ground. He did have a hen with him,she flew after the shot.
