Gawd, just saying it makes me scream like a little girl. I'm not afraid of snakes or spiders or regular adult ticks or even David J in a Speedo (okay, maybe a little \:D ), but seed ticks scare the heyall outta me. They're like chiggers on crack. A couple times, I've gotten them real good (over 100 bites), and man it sucks hard. It's hard to sleep when you itch for 2 weeks!

the turkey I shot last Sunday was covered in them. the deer last year during bow season was covered. I am nurse-maiding a bite on my back now.

The ticks have been awful, all sizes colors, you name it. I pulled 5 off me on Saturday, 11 on Sunday, and 3 yesterday. Not just crawling but attached.

I was sitting in a meeting Wed. afternoon after hunting that morning and pulled one off my cheek that was out for a walk.

My truck is full of them as well.

We sprayed good before Thursdays hunt and we both still got ticks stuck in us. No seed ticks luckily but just deer ticks.

Yeah, you guys know we're not talking about regular adult ticks right? Unless you're looking really hard, you can't see them because they are the size of a needle head. They look a lot like a tiny crab. You would never be able to see them on a turkey or deer. They are actually just the larva of a regular tick.

Generally speaking, you don't know they are on you until it's too late, and they infest you by the dozens, sometimes over a hundred at once. It is much like a chigger bite, except it lasts a little longer and itches a little more. Years ago, my girlfriend spent over 4 hours painstakingly pulling about 150 off me with tweezers. It didn't do any good because they had already bitten me. Those next two weeks sucked pretty hard trying to get some sleep.

I know that many of you guys think that you are superman, invincible, and all that jazz, but in my personal experience you can prevent most of the bites. Someone said "we sprayed and still got bit". I have gotten one bite so far this season, and that was before I realized that tick season was upon us(before turkey season opened) and didn't protect. #1, I treat my boots with permanone. Then I always wear tight fitting CALF length socks. Then I tuck my pants legs into my boots. With those steps, you have eliminated mosy of the critters, because the ground is from whence most of them come. Oh yeah, I also spray around mt boot tops with deet. I wear long sleeved tight cuff tees, and spray deet around my cuffs, neck, waist and fly. A little trouble perhaps with the preparation, but beats heck out of the itching.....or worse!

gotta treat the clothes outside and inside
espically the inside of the pants legs from the knee down
and inside of sleeve cuffs
and the waist line

if ya get ate up by seed ticks, regular ticks or chiggers
try a product called "chigg away" to releive the itching and it speeds up the healing also
sulphar based so if your allergic dont use it
comes in a small green squeeze bottle about 4 oz
you will smell like sulphar but it works

I agree, 4, but I would add that seed ticks penetrate the barriers much easier than adult ticks. The adults are a joke compared to the little critters that generally attack by the hundreds. They are so tiny they can fit through the smallest knit socks and through the crevices in your shoe or boot.

This is just personal preference and I have no proof of what I'm saying, but I trust Permanone or Permethrin more than Cutter, Off, and Repel (deet products).

I use 'em both, permanone on the boots, and then deet(Repel) on mt clothes. The other afternoon it was hot, so I took off my long sleeved tee. I kept feeling ant like critters crawling up mt untreated arms, and they were your almost no see ems ticks. I kept flicking them offm and went home. Another thing that I do for damage control is to take a hot soapy shower as soon as I hit the house. Works for me.
