Homemade Ladder Stands

I've thought about making some stands to have in some diffrent spots. Anyone have any ideas or ever made any before?

I don't think there is anyway you could build one as cheap as you could buy one, plus, it is a much safer and maintenance free way to go with a store bought metal ladder stand. Dick's Sporting goods is a good place to buy one. You usually can google up a $15 or even $25 off coupon for Dick's as well. I have built wooden ladder stands before, by the time you purchase treated lumber and all the other stuff you need - it gets expensive. Then after first couple years, you are repairing them constantly. Also, they are very heavy to fool with as well.

My uncle had one on his farm that he gave to me,he don't know where it come from,but he knew it wasn't supposed to be there.Someone took 2 15ft pressure treated 2x4's and made a ladder out of it and then just made a small platform to sit on.I'll snap a pic of it tomorrow if I remember!

I've made a couple from treated lumber that I salvaged from an old deck I tore down a few years ago. I put them together with galvanized deck screws and brushed on a couple of heavy coats of wood preservative after I built them. Used 4x4 posts for the ladder and 2x10's to make the platform, so they are plenty sturdy. They were not much fun to put up, though, since they weigh a ton. Needless to say, those bad boys don't get moved around!

I hunted out of my homemade stand for a few years. It was a shipping pallet and some supports underneath it that tied to the tree, and a 2x4 ladder going up.
After 4 or 5 years, it had weathered to the point that it was an 'adventure' getting up into it, staying in it, and getting down out of it, so I chopped it down. Didn't want anyone else climbing up there and have my 'termites holding hands' stand collapse.
After that, I just went with store-bought metal stands. They were less noticeable anyway, and a LOT easier to put up! Plus, they don't rot.

We have a 32 foot homemade ladderstand and a 27 foot on our lease in NC. The platforms are huge and will easily hold 2 people. The ladders are made up of the shelving material that warehouses use. Sams and costco use pretty much the same braces. Basically they are the metal poles that hold the shelving. These ladders are sturdy and need no braces. They are basically 3" by 6". They are heavy. We hauled them in with a gooseneck trailer and climbed the tree to the right height and hung a block and pulley and used a Polaris 6x6 and a honda 300 4x4 hooked up to it to pull the stand up. Great stands but I dread the day we ever have to take them down.

Steel prices have come down in the last 8-9 months
But I think it would still be cheaper to just buy the stands

I love ladder stands. I came up with a design I like and have built 4 or 5 and they are spread across our property. All from lumber I got from new home sites, etc. Have yet to buy any lumber, just the nails and bolts.

Unfortunately, this is the only pic I can find of one, but you get the idea $\:D$ ! Two bottom braces, braces where the foot platform is located, braces for the seat, and then a single brace for an arm/shooting rest

Homemade stands are always nice if ya can find the lumber at a good price. Wished I still had a pic of mine on this computer but guess it got erased. Post pics of what ya decide to build
