Jakes are the lifeblood of the gobbler population, and folks do not seem to have concept of that. If left untouched I think science says only 1/3 survive anyway, and if you kill several it lowers the numbers even more.

I understand folks who wish to kill 1 and have no problem with that, but killing 3 or 4 is pathetic.

1 jake rule, no beard restrictions or anything, but a 1 jake rule might make a huge difference statewide.

There wasnt but two longbeards on 2 square miles. Pitiful considering there used to be 10 or more. I decided not to kill any there this year but that didnt do a bit of good.

As opposed to, 'we should continue shooting baby turkeys' \:\) \:\)

Seriously, though...

Harvest limits should fluctuate region by region and year by year depending on the spring's hatch and previous harvest totals. In my county which has seen a decline in population and harvest numbers for 5 consecutive years, I'd like to see all jakes protected and limit on gobblers lowered to 2. I'd also like to see the season open the second week of April. While we're at it, elimination of fall hen hunting during the period of population decline would also be nice.

As the population rebounds, the harvest restrictions could be loosened.

It doesn't matter if they protected them in a county if someone shoots a ball of hens in one sitting. Hard to rebound a population with multiple hens getting whacked during the spring...

here we go with the name calling again.Seems like the same old stuff. If someone shoots a small buck or a jake then they are not as good a hunter as you.if someone is happy shooting 4 jakes then let them shoot them.you would be giving them a big congrats if they posted pics. of 4 2 year old turkey they killed.a 2 year old gobbler is about as easy to call in as a jake. But everone sees it as mature so that is ok.

i think people would accept two jakes and 2 longbeards better than just 1 jake limit.but who are we to tell others what they can shoot?I don't really enjoy shooting jakes but I will take them sometimes.I am not going to tell someone to pass one up so that I can try to shoot it next year.

not looked at the co harvest to much but from what I saw on wma land there were not that many jakes killed compared to adults.I know a few co. have high jake counts.but with the good hatch last year it would be expected for the jake harvest to go up.

Maybe allow a youth to harvest any turkey including hens on juvy hunt.

Maybe we should have a 1 1/2" minimum spur length.
