the picture dosent do this bird justice at all
1"3/8ths spur
1"1/4 spur
10"3/8ths beard
21.9 pounds
area 26 ftcky

my usual photographer nicole my oldest daughter is at the softball feilds with the wife and my 2 other daughters
had to swing by the feilds on the way home of course to show them \:\)

i had been hunting these birds for the past 3 weekends on post
the same area i took a double last year
and last year there was 6 i heard gobbling the morning i took that double

3 of them have been playing jedi mind games with me, seriously..
and i violated the dont get obsessed by a bird or birds rule and focused on these birds only
it was personal, they didnt know it, but i sure as heck did.
now i can focus on some other birds in my area and espically since the flooded creek bottom is going down which has caused me some woe also over the past 2-3 weeks on afternoon/evening hunts after work

the warm weather this past week has made a difference big time in their behavior

i was within probably 65 yards of where this one was roosted this morning got in at 0445 and set the dekes in a 3 way fire break and sat down real quick about 15 yards inside the woodline

he started gobbling on the roost and i could feel the small pressure wave literally from him sounding off jumped the heck out of me on that 1st one \:D \:D \:D
then a hen started tree yelping a little about 90-100 yards in front of me , he was right on my immediate right and im like man you are one dead bird and hoping he wouldnt hit the ground and go silent like they have been for the past 2-3 weeks
this went on for a little while and i watched him fly down to the right on the east west fire break uot of sight maybe 125 yards away and he is just gobbling away in a slight bend on the road and i know he can probably see my dekes in his line of sight
i had a feeding hen deke about 30 yards away and a jake deke just behind my sitting hen deke about 40 yards out
as soon as he hit the ground the live hen flew down and started yelping and clucking at him moveing in his direction, driving him nuts gobbling in that same spot he flew down too.
so i started cutting off that hens yelps and clucks with my own and ticked her off big time \:D \:D \:D
she came looking for this "hen" who dared to try and steal her man away clucking loud and locater putting when she got on the road and seen my dekes she did that 1 loud putt i see you type of call
and im like yah your coming to have a talk with this rival hen you heard \:\)

i saw her coming thru the trees and brush on the side of the road from my right and got the gun up when she went behind 3 trees and he was right behind her about 15 yards all fanned out moving fast right for that jake and sitting hen
i clucked twice he put his head up and i rolled him at about 37 yards ran and put the boot heel to him real quick, let him give up the ghost
said a little something for the spirit of the animal facing towards the north (just my thing kinda :))
was back at the truck at 0715 \:\) \:\) \:\) happy as can be!!!!!
going back tommorow morning
2 more are in their
calling it day today gonna go watch some girls fast pitch softball after i shower up and shave here real soon. [img][/img]
