Go about hunting a new area without scouting?
My wife and I are taking the kids to our family cabin in Crossville. We are leaving around lunch on Friday the 24th. After running around and visiting family, we will probably arrive at the property around dark.
I have spent alot of time on the property hunting deer but never turkey. I have seen alot of turkeys from time to time while deer hunting.
What would be a good game plan for Saturday morning?
I may just step out on the front porch around daylight and listen. Actually I may have just answered my own question.....

Thanks,

Go to the areas where you saw them during deer season, and get somewhere that you can hear a good distance. They will be close, usually.

Let me know where it is, and I'll check it out for you \:\) !

Be warned that the birds are pretty tight-lipped right now. Maybe they will open up by the end of the week.

Thanks man! It will actually be the 24th of April, so maybe the old toms will be moving around a bit.
I am not really sure how to tell someone how to get there. I can get there if I am driving, but I couldnt give directions even if I tried. It's weird but it's the truth.

Oh go ahead and give it a shot \:D ! I hunt primarily in Hebbertsburg, but have a few spots scattered around.

If your property has some of the Catoosa-strain birds which a lot of the county does, then your timing should be pretty good. Historically, they don't gobble much until later on.

Our property is fairly close to it. Out of 5 or 6 different trips to either our property or Catoosa, I have heard three gobbles, and all from the same bird. I have to get off of the Plateau to work gobbling turkeys early in the season.

Good luck, and shoot me a PM as it gets closer, and I can tell you how the birds are acting.
