This is my first year turkey hunting and I have had them all around me goobling back at me, but can never get them to come in. Am I calling to much or not enough, I have decoys out but they dont seem interested. I went this afternoon and within about 15 min of sitting down I had a Tom about 75 yds away on the other side of a pond gobbling back when I called but quit after the third time then he gobbled one more time in the woods but stopped for a good 30 to 45 min. I got up to walk into the woods and ended up jumping him. was he coming in quite like a deer and checking out the area before he commeted? Any pointers will help.

This is just my second year hunting these things, but I have learned that you have to be extremely patient sometimes. If he was gobbling at you then you had his interest and it's time to just sit and wait on him. I've heard that if you keep persistently responding to his gobbles then he will expect you to come to him. That may be why he was holding where he was at. That's my inexperienced .02. Good luck next time you go.

man it is really hard to say without being there and seeing the land and how you are hunting them. I wouldnt get upset about doing anything wrong EVERYONE does it EVERY year. Heck i had 3 gobbling this morning, set up on them and they flew down. They gobbled twice and that was it, i sat there for another 30mins or so and decided to easy down and try and get around them. When i stood up they were 50yds out just taking there time coming it......then hunting this after noon and killed one withing 10mins of calling the first time. They are a fickle creature and each one is different.

being between him and a pond could have been an issue, and calling to much is a common problem but there is no book on what works everytime. Sometimes calling alot works great and other times i hurts you.

Just stay with it and try and figure out where they go, it is alot easier to call one in if you are there and actually in a place they are already headed.

good luck man and feel free to hit me up with any questions, would be glad to help any way i can

another tip on calling is send the noise right at him at first, then start sending the sound directly opposite of him to where it sounds like you are leaving. just a minor tip but every bit will help.

This is a doozy ,whats the right answer?? You never know how much to call but odds are that if you let him know you are there and then just play hard to get then he will come looking. If he has hens which he probably does then you are fighting an uphill battle,he is more then likely an older bird that has no worries about losing a hen to a younger bird.Try to get to where they are going if there are hens involved and do some very soft feeding calls ,nothing aggresive it will turn the flock in a hurry. The idael turkey is a 2 year old that comes running but sounds like you are dealing with more than that ,Hang in there!!!

if all else fails and somehow the hens answer you, try and piss one of them off and call them in. For some reason this year more then years past i have been able to call in 8 hens so far, i mean they come in PISSED and ready to fight. Bad part is all have been solo up to this point but i am holding out that one time the big boy is with one of them

all my years i have learned when they gobble at u calling wait for 15 or 20 mins then call again i usually cluck ,purr or cut yelping can mean alot of things it is a waiting game try not to call so much and play hard to get always works for me no matter where i am but if he has hens alot of time they will lead him away from u always try to know where they will go when it comes to that unless u can sound alot more sexier then them lol just stick with it u will get some good luck

i've had 2 come in this year when i just call 2 or 3 times about every 25 minutes. Both came in silent without warning. I blew both oppurtunities just by not being patient. Every time i go out i seem to learn something new.
