i have something kind of like a brillo pad that came with one of those slate call conditioners,it has a diamond side and a stone side for roughing up slate, glass, and aluminum calls plus it holds a piece of chalk and one of those brillo type pads.

I use a small file. Mainly on a cedar peg.

I use 3M sanding blocks, they are perfect as they are filled with foam and mold themselves to properly sand a striker. You have to keep a striker conditioned or it will run, and NEVER I mean NEVER touch the end of the striker or your call with a bare hand.

Also, try pool cue chalk on the end of your striker, it works really well with some strikers and on some calls, if it doesn't just sand a little and it is gone.

3M pads are great i turn my own strikers and those pads are what i use.the green plastic type brillo pads work for touch ups while in the field . but never use real course grit makes them too rough.
