Saw this in Shooting Times April 09 Issuie and is the best on the subjuect I think I have ever read. They now have it on ther web site at the link below.

It mentiones the pro and con of the different type of bore sighting tools and methods.

There are two things I disagree with the writer on

1- The accuracy of the Collimator type depends on the user and the scope mount height.

2- The old bore sight down the bore has prooven far more accurate for me.

Still a darn good article though,

I bought a collimater (you call it) a few years back. The gun I was going to use it on has a muzzle break and could not get it just right in the barrel. The other guns I have that I know for a fact are dead on, that gadget indicated I should not be anywhere close to the paper. So refer back to the first post where it states it could be the user. It's the ol' eyeball down the barrel for me.

Every time i have ever had a gun boresighted it has never even been close to the target. Cant figure that one out but i still let them do it since it is
I can use the ole bore sight down the barrel at 25 yards like jack oconner used to speak of and get on paper and then adjust from there and usually be right by the 5th or 6th shot out to 100 yards. Seems reasonable to me.
The problem in America is not that ungodly people have said yes to ungodly things, but rather that Godly people have refused to say "no" to ungodly things.

look thru bore at 20 ft at a dime that will get on paper but will be high for some reason. never trusted a boresighting of any kind to hunt with. but did save a shot or two. sandbag it.
