surely you naysayers don't believe reelfoot is not fertile enough to support that minimum?

Well, I haven't seen any DATA for Reelfoot, so it's all just idle speculation at this point.

Reelfoot certainly is a productive lake for crappie. I don't think it grows big fish as well as Sardis or Enid in MS. However, I can't think of a lake that produces better numbers. It's about as good as it gets in TN.

Is a 12-in. minimum necessary? I don't know. It's been a while since I've been to Reelfoot, but it seemed like the fish were abundant and sizeable with NO size limit. It could be that the marginal increase in size of the fish would be outweighed by the negative impact on harvest - I'd say a majority of people care more about catching a LOT of keeper crappie than they do about whether the fish are 10" vs. 12".

I'd say that you are dead on with your last sentence. Pretty basic concept, well, at least amongst us bucket sitters.

What's the point? Are you just fond of asking rhetorical questions? Fertile or non-fertile, the politics of the area would never allow such a size limit to be effected. And IMO rightfully so. Unless you are just on here for debate, surely you understand practicality. And the practicality of this question is that the state fisheries are designed to furnish the mostest for the mostest. And they certainly wouldn't be accomplishing this with a 12" limit at Reelfoot. The fisheries people know that, as do all of area fishermen who fish Reelfoot, as do the guides and resort owners who want their customers to catch and be able to KEEP a repectable number of fish.
