No this is not meant to be a slam to anyone who killed one, and please please please do not slam anyone or make any snide comments about shooting jakes.

I just wanted to see if others saw bunches of jakes this past weekend, even if you killed them please speak up as to how many you saw.

I saw a total of 7, 5 Saturday and 2 this morning. Good sign IMO, and it looks as though we had a good hatch of birds last spring. Which is always needed.

If one came within my shooting range I would had took him out. But as it is the closest one got to me was 64 yards and I didn't want to take that shot.

Lost count around 8 or 9

Seen two on Saturday within the first hour of the hunt. I had the bow in hand so I was actually a little tempted, but decided to keep on keeping on.

I'm not really sure how many we saw. They're still bunched up bad on the farm we're hunting. One group of three, then another of seven came and checked out the decoys. All the rest stayed on the far end of the field with the rest of the birds.
Passed.

If I had seen one he would have gotten shot. I got a rule of thumb, take the first legal animal, deer or turkey( button buck I draw the line). I have found if I pass on the first one, I dont get any more chances the rest of the season. but if I take one, I have more chances to take something. the only time I pass on the first one is if I am hunting somewhere that there is a rule against it.

I laugh because me and some buds back home used to have this crap happen to us almost every year. Finally we would be successful but it usually cursed us for a few weeks. I decided one year I would just shoot a jake in AL on opening day, and it took me until the end of the season to make up for it.

It sounds from these posts that there is a ton of jakes all over the state, it also means there is ample hens and will cause the season to be tougher as more hens will come in "heat" later as well. Good news for the upcoming years.

I passed up 2. Problem is a crap load of people around me killed jakes. Thats the problem Im seeing this year, there a few gobblers and lots of jakes from last years good hatch and people are just laying waste to the jakes.

Couldn't tell you how many I saw - but 2 didn't make it. My hunting buddy bagged one Sat morning and I tagged one about mid day Saturday. Just took his breasts off the smoker about 30 minutes ago.

could have shot 5 jakes on Sat afternoon late in the afternoon. They actually came in silent and went out silent. Had the bead on one at 25yds but let them move on. Hopefully they will make it till next year.

Me and my dad doubled down on two jakes Saturday morning. First double together. Tried hard the last couple years to get a double and never had any luck. It all came together on Sat. We usually don't kill jakes but had to make a memory together. We dont always get that opportunity.
