For what it's worth, and it really means nothing, but here it is.

2009- 4,728 birds total
2008- 5,263 birds total
2007- 7,982 birds total
2006- 7,751 birds total

The weather this year and last year were identical. The weather in 2007 was gorgeous, and in 2006 rained but was warm.

It is stunning, as I thought things would be up from the reports I have heard, but it looks like we are down around 500 birds already. Not as staggering as the huge drop last year, and easily made up over the course of the season.

I am hopeful things rocket back upwards this year, and we do not have to relive the whole discussion again from last year. I know others join me in that wish as well \:D

Last year it was pouring here on opening morning cause I opted to stay in the truck but my son just had to get out in it. This year here it was so foggy for the first hour that you couldn't see. Today winds gusting to over 30 mph all day. Greene county is up 7 birds from last year.

It is hard to say which opener was worse, here in the valley last year it was cold and raining steady. This year fog and light rain. This year the birds gobbled and gobbled well, probably from 4 days of solid rain they were used to it.

Sunday of last year it was exactly the same as it was today, except the birds gobbled well this morning.

Who knows, all I can say is I hope we are done with the weather of this past weekend, but I know that isn't the case.

I hunted Clinch mountain in 4" of snow, it was awful.

The weather has definitely been better later in the season here, this opening weekend hex is laughable.

I sat in the dark this morning chuckling about how bad it was, and thinking I should have stayed in bed. Just goes to show you that you can never tell what mood the birds will be in, even if the weather is horrible.

And now after one week of bad weather the state is about 800 birds up on last year.
