That would be new to me, but I am up for something new. I understand that Clinch is the place to be. I have ultralite tackel, but what kinds of lures/bait are yall throwing at them

When is the best to catch them. Water up or down. Do you just cast out in the river and hope for the best or is there particular structure that is better.

Do you have to have anything other than a license.

I fish the Clinch probably more than most people in the area. I try to get up there at least 3 times a week. If you are bank fishing, above the weir dam is good when generating. If you are fishing from a boat it's a whole different game.

If fishing off of the bank, corn, salmon eggs, worms and roostertails work well with no generation and 1 generator.

Fly fishing is best when the generators are off.

A good place to start with ultralight tackle is a 1/8 oz. rooster tail in black w/ gold blade or white w/ silver blade. Little Cleo spoons, small sized Rebel Crawfish, and yo zuri minnows are good choices too. If these don't work, you can try dead drifting a black or pink Trout Magnet jig. Cast it out under a small bobber and just let it drift at the same speed as the current.

Low water is the best time to catch numbers of fish. High water can be good for "trophy hunting" but learn to catch them consistently on low water first.

Try shallow runs at the heads and tails of deep pools. Look for current breaks. It is very similar to fishing for smallmouth in creeks - they like the same types of structure.

You need a trout stamp.

Good luck!

This is great info to get me started. One more question though. Where can I find a schedule of when the gens will be on or off.

An HJ-6 silver rapala [the smallest husky jerk made] will absolutely SLAUGHTER little rainbows and browns. I can't TELL you how many times I've gotten bored and gone down on no flo and just slaughtered them. Plus, it'll put you in the ball park for a 20"+ as well. Taken a few wading shallow water doing this. BD's other suggestions are all great. Try the HJ_6 though, and the silver works best. Not magic...it's just the flash is all.

On my list, the yo zuri minnow accomplishes the same thing as the HJ6. I like the yo zuris better, but it's probably just a personal preference thing.

NO! Yo ZURIS SUCK! YOU'RE WRONG BD! DEAD @#*$( WRONG!

JK...they're cool. Whatever. BD's right, same difference.

If there is a difference I've seen, the Yo's have a bit more fluid action, and kind of a swagger to their wobble, and the little huskies just have this little rapid fire tight and hard wobble that will vibrate the tip more. I don't know what's better..just a little bait that looks like a minnow.

Trout are the dumbest fish in the state. Catching them requires a similar IQ-

If you want a challenge, try bluegill.

Tinks...
it is true that not releasing a fish kills it.

Trout apparently cannot digest corn. They gain no nutrition from it. Does it kill it short term...no. Is it good for the trout if it digest spilled corn over the long term..no. Your decision.

Yo Zuris are among the best if you know how to fish them. If you don't, they suck.

Corn is just for fishing deep holes. They are known as..........

I have fished a few yo-zuris. I just don't like forking out that much money, and the bigger ones with the profile I like are more expensive...

...I just like the rogues and BIG x-raps. It's tough to be a rattlin' rogue though.

The single best trout lure is 1/6 ounce blue/flash that I invented. You can't buy one. I only make them for myself and BigBird Campbell. In 2008 we had 17 trout over 8 pounds and six over ten. All were caught on the blue/flash. Our second best lure was the Buckhorn Boogie Bear.
