Had a fella tell me he runs into schools of them up by the dam. I don't doubt there could be a couple, but he acts like he can catch them anytime he wants.

Thanks

lake trout were stocked in Norris Lake many years ago. Have not had any reports in years.

Below the dam, there are rainbow, brown and now brook trout.

May be thinking the brooks are lake trout.

When I first moved here, myself and 2 fisheries biologists with TVA worked for 2 solid weeks trying to find out if any of the lake trout were still alive. We found no signs of them. We did find both rainbow and brown trout (which was odd), but zero lake trout.

Our species had everything imaginable including things they did not know there were many of in that reservoir.

Not saying they still couldn't be there somewhere, but after combing every likely location we came up with zilch.

Oh and BTW I hear all these urban legends of giant catfish at the base of the dam, best I can tell that is total BS. We dove a ton in that area and saw plenty of catfish, and some big ones, but none as rumored which were as big as VW bugs.

Did you see Jake Butchers house boat when you dived by the dam?

Hook,
Amen. Put it to rest. I mean, 100 pounds? Sure. Maybe even a 150 or 200 pounds...I don't consider that out of the question of the indeterminate growth of a blue or flathead catfish...and I think fish that size swim in most reservoirs in the southern half of the United States. 80-100 pounds are probably fairly common...but Volkswagens? Not likely...have to go to the Po or Danube to get catfish like that...say...or just bring them here..

Oh, the Wels fargo wagon is a comin'....

No house boats, and the cats I saw that were really big probably weighed 80 lbs, which is big don't get me wrong. The guys at the marina swore they had hooked some that would go 300-500 lbs.

Must be a new species, and never die, as one of those would definitely get some attention when it washed on shore.

Also, was told by some dude, that there were sharks in Norris, cause somebody caught one a few years ago. Never saw any, don't think it is possible.

The biggest i ever saw was at Ft loudoun...We was diving 90 ft setting trash racks there....The catfish swimed right between my legs as i was moving sticks and other stuff...well the cat was close to 4 1/2 ft long and his head was as big around as a 5 gallon bucket...I been on alot of the dams thur the TVA system...from norris to Ky dam and also Fontana...A few years ago we was diving 207 at Fontana and nowhere near bottom

The legends of big cats by the dam are a part of every lake. I have heard that story about Lake Martin (AL), Smith Lake (AL), Ft Nasty, and just about every body of water that has a large dam someone will say they saw a fish as big as pick up.

I have been trying to stock Norris with sharks for several years. I am glad they are surviving, and someone caught one. I might try dolphins next.
