I used some braided line to slide my slip knot and a strand popped loose. Two more strands followed. I went and shot anyways with no issue. I got home, rubbed in some wax, used a lighter carefully to melt down the loose strands, and applied more wax. The string appears fine now and my guess is there are alot of strands left so the string should be ok for awhile. I looked at the pressure point where the strand popped loose and there is no cut in the string, just a slight depression. I'm tired of string issues.

That sux.Should be fine unless you start to see more fraying.I bought a crossbow last year before i sold it,it was bought new and when i got it home, they had a zip tie around the strings and cables so it couldn't be cocked back.Dummy me uses a light to burn the zip tie off and I melt 4 strands of the string off.But it still shot fine.

Thanks Cecil...Rick at Dickson Sportsman explained to me one time when I had a buss cable getting chewed up by peep sight tubing that there are several strands in a string, so a couple loose strands is not an urgent matter. I hope not.

Yes there are several strands in a string but it is just one continious loop or 2 loops if your shooting a 2 color string. If one strand is broken then the whole string is broken. The only string that has individual strands is a flemish string used on traditional bows. When moving a peep on a string it is best to take some tension off the string to slide it around. The sharp edges of something as small as a peep sight can cut the strands. If you can't take the tension off the string at least slip something with soft rounded edges9 I use a small crescent wrench handle) in between the strands where the peep is located and make the space between the strands bigger then slide the peep up or down some. But it really sounds to me that your being just a bit too nit-picky right now. You have time to get it dialed in just so-so before hunting season. Like it was said just shoot and learn your equipment, learn your self and your form. It will all come together, I promise.

You should have used your thumb nail to slide the serving . Dude , you need to just quit messing with stuff and just shoot . I don't think I have ever seen someone go through two strings on two different bows in less than a month.

Scott, on the bright side he is keeping the archery industry in business. I give him credit for that. I need to buy something to help out. I may just go dry fire my bow.

UTGrad, we are just busting your chops!

Yep, I know. I couldn't get the serving on the slip knot to budge with anything, so I tried heavy braid fishing line. I don't have any serving around the house I could have used. I looped the line around the string right below the knot and put pressure on it to slide it up. Well, the fishing line dug into the string and this happened. I'm getting Vapor Trail and moving on.
