If you don't like the laminates, try bubinga or bois d'arc, they are always good stand bys. Purple heart is pretty good but loses the breaking ability IMO which other woods offer.

I have a birchwood striker by woodhave that sounds great. Best striker on the market, period IMO. Sounds great on every surface it has touched that I have seen. Bottom line IMO, if it has plastic anywhere on the striker, it doesn't matter what wood is involved it is junk. All wood strikers resonate better, and are much easier to handle.
are you talking about the birch one that is $8 or the laminate birch that is $20?

yea the laminate and it was $15 at the show.
