There is no point to freezer fillers, it is one thing to keep a bunch of fish to eat, but frozen fish even in water are horrible after a couple of months. Most "feezer fillers" bring them home to feel successful IMO. There is a difference in fillers and harvesters.

No harm no foul on the panty wadding \:D

I wish I could fill my freezer right now. It wouldn't take much, to much venison in there. \:\)

I have fond memories of my Dad and his best friend filling the cabin freezer(s) with Crappie. (in the basement)

They had an old washing machine out back that had been modified to have a chicken wire basket. They could put a good mess of crappie in there.

Turn it on and in about 15 minutes the scales would be pouring out of the bottom of that washer and the fish would be slick as a whistle

They had numerous 1 gallon milk jugs with the about the top 25% cut away. They then filled the jugs with water about halfway full and placed the fish in them with the tail up.

These jugs would hold a mess of crappie.

It was always a treat for me to go down there and open a freezer and see all those tails sticking out of those jugs.:)

Finally they also had a gas grill modified to be a fish cooker and they cooked so often they would never change the grease until May 1rst. They never crappie fished after May 1rst. (catfish biten then).

Sorry this is so long but I never, ever saw those guys throw away fish. Give away yes but not throw away. (they also never filleted a crappie) It really is better fried whole.

So if you ever saw my dad and his best friend at the ramp with a load of slabs you can rest assured they weren't wasted.

There seems to be no shortage of 10"+ fish IMO. Alot of the fish we had today were around 12" but very few over 12".

I would again, not like a 12" min. on crappie here, and wish they would up the limit back to 30 fish. It just doesn't take very long to catch 15.

Captain, you should think about fishing professionally. If you have those skills let them pay you! Good Luck.

i would have to see it to believe that crappie would overpopulate in the tennessee river system with a twelve inch minimum, with the abundance of predator fish in that river. what about fifty years ago when fishing pressure had zero affect on the population? was there a time back then that the lake was overpopulated? never heard of it. that argument is most likely a crutch for folks who don't want to work for their fish. by the way, once the fish get larger, it's no harder to catch a good mess of big ones than the ten inch babies so many bucket fishermen are content with. some of you guys need to grow up and develop some better standards.

I don't think the crappie would overpopulate and stunt in a reservoir as big as Kentucky Lake or Old Hickory. Too much room and too much forage. It's not like a farm pond where they can crowd out.

On the other hand, if a crappie's average life expectancy is 4.5 years and the growth rate takes them 5 years to reach 12 inches, you can impose 12 inch size limits from Memphis to Bristol and you aren't going to get many keeper fish.

There are good days and bad days and not many folks talk of the bad days if you notice. Oh and I did get paid to fish professionally, not much anymore, but for a few years I lived pretty comfortably on fishing revenues.

Well, the biologists do - the regs work better if there's some science to back them up. Turns out crappie don't live forever.

I guess if they did, we could set a 30 inch size limit on crappie and all have fun catching giant ones. But it doesn't work that way.
