A couple of years ago we got into these birds which had 8" beards, full fans, and little spurs (the ones in the pics). I can only assume they were late/early hatched birds which were not 2 years old, almost but not quite. I have called in loads of gobbling/strutting jakes, but these birds were mature birds with smaller then 2 year old spurs. Some could be busted up spurs as well. I haven't killed a true jake in a while, not that it hasn't almost happened, especially here when they periscope their heads up and you have to make a snap decision.
And you are right on the 45 birds.

7 yrs of birds... That is 6 plus a year not counting the ones you lost.
Why are you killing the small ones with your type of "mentality"?

Hey steven, Insted if tossing them, I will take them off your hands. Will even drive up there to get them. Just cut them off, throw them in a walmart bag and stick in the freezer till I can get there. I promise to be there with in 3 days of you telling me you got them.

Congrats brother. Looks like you get after em pretty tuff. And as far as the "little ones" comments. You don't know what his spurs are gonna be like till you shoot him. I've killed a good number of mature birds with short and broken spurs. There's some good spurs in there also. Again Congrats Captain.

Small ones??? Hard to say what a birds spurs look like until you roll him over. If he has a longbeard, a full fan, and is mature he dies. I can't help the fact that some birds break spurs, some only grow one, some grow none, etc even if they are mature gobblers. I don't shoot jakes, nothing against folks who do, but none of those birds are what is deemed a jake. Short beards and half fans.
The spurs I lost were prior to the last 7 years, and yes there were some jakes on that string as that one dated back to my first years of turkey killing. Crucify me, I killed some jakes in my first years turkey hunting. Of course I was hardly old enough to drive, but I knew better
