i just cant see what a 12" minimum would accomplish on the lakes i fish. they need to lower it to about 9-7/8" that way i can catch one that i can keep. \:\)

i got the size limit changed in a certain lake , but had to call everybody except the prez to make it happen ,, some folks on here might remember the dealing i had with them but its lowered to 8 inch min now , dont really look for it to stay that way thow , but it will be good for the lake , the crappie in the lake iam talkin about were stunted and you hardly ever cought one that was ten inches but you would catch hundreds that were 9 1/2

Even if you could, I don't think it would accomplish the same sort of results. Crappie growth rates on the reservoirs in Mississippi are faster. Their 12" fish and our 10" fish are probably not that much different in age.

makes sense.

the same can be said for ft. loudon/tellico. when you catch 50+ fish and only 2 or 3 BARELY measure 10 inches, something is not right.

Don't count your chickens to quick. They passed the 15" and 18" rule on Pickwick with ZERO biological data. All it takes is a little pressure from the right folks with some $$ to get it done.

TWRA still being laughed at over that one.

Plus, crappie limits are set for much different reasons than bass limits. Kinda deer and turkeys. Two totally different animals.

The link I posted above backs you up on this. Tellico is in a category by itself - it's just not very fertile. TWRA's data showed that it takes around 4.5 years for a crappie to reach 10 inches in Tellico, and they simply don't live much longer than that.

I expect that at some point the size limits will be taken off of Tellico, because the science is showing that they just don't do any good. I'm sure TWRA was trying to keep things simple for anglers by instituting a statewide size limit, but crappie growth is so different in the different reservoirs that they're probably going to have to go to lake-by-lake regulation eventually.

Oh - by the way... as long as we're discussing Tellico, I'll throw in again that we ought to destroy Tellico dam. \:\)

Crappie are much more prolific than Bass are . In smaller waters Crappie can become stunted if they are allowed to overpopulate.

I'm sick of the 10 inch limit myself.
