I have a B-Mobile and use it with a jake fan. In your opinion what is the most effective method of setting up your strutting decoy? Jake fan? Gobbler Fan? Do you set him up with several hens or just one? Last year I used the same set up when I used him most of the time. Strutting jake two or three yards behind a hen decoy that was bedded down. Had several birds come in including jakes and longbeards. Just wondering if there were some other methods that you fellas use.

I used the same set up as you, with the exception being I used a full fan, several times in the last two years.
Ain't had anything come into it yet.
I mean NOTHING.

I killed one long beard last year when two of them saw my decoy and came charging in. A buddy of mine killed one lonbeard when he came in by himself to check out the decoy. Another buddy of mine killed a lonbeard when it and the hens came in to the decoy. And my brother missed when a jake came in to whip him. It worked great early, but I killed the rest of my birds with out him. It seemed to not work as well after the first couple of weeks. Just my experience.

I only use my strutter around mid season. Early season,.. there are to many other hens around for him to care about fighting for a couple hens most of the time,.. toward the end ,.. i think they have been pressured enough not to make that mistake,. they know when hen are available. BUT,.. mid season,. you can catch one out looking for the last few hens and they are really intent on getting those last few, even if it means they have to fight,.. thats when i use it. AND,.. i use it with a standing hen and a feeding hen decoy.

I used one a few times but FOR ME it is to much hassle to deal with. I usually carry 2 fold up decs in my vest but dont even use them unless i think i can get them out in time.

the full strutters are really good looking and i have heard alot of people that use them (usually the same set up as you mentioned) but to me it is to much trouble to tote them around.

i very rarely sit in one spot for long so keeping up with it turns out to be more of a bother.

HOWEVER i have a buddy that was living in VA that used one quite a bit. He left it sitting out in a field one day because he had to move quickly on a bird. He ended up killing the one he was after but when he returned to get the decoy he sat and watched 2 LB's beating the HE!! out of it lol. He ended up filming about 10mins of it before he realized they were destroying it and he actually spent money on it hahahah

i emailed him to send me the video and i will post it if he can find it.

For me it worked better early. I think there was a lot of people in my area using them and the birds got used to them. I had several birds just come in running and jump on him the first couple of weeks. It was crazy. I will give that set up a try later on in the season though.

Just be careful you dont put them where they can be seen from a road, wouldnt want anyone to get a 22 round in them.
