killed one with a bow while deer hunting, but never got around to bringing the stick and string on a spring turkey hunt.

I have killed two myself with a bow. It is tough and your patience will be tested. It is rewarding though.

I've got 13 with bow now, but 4 were just walking by while I was deer hunting in fall. Two were breaking up flocks in the fall and calling them back in (one of which was a gobbler). The other 7 were called in, not ambushed, during the spring.
I'm not that big on the taste, and the actual kill just doesn't mean much to me anymore (although it's still exilerating to finish the deal). At some point, I realized I just enjoyed calling them in more than finishing them off. That may be the mentality you need for turkey bow hunting because there's lots of rejection.
So I roll the dice with the bow. Mostly, I fail miserably and get busted. I've only killed one out of a blind, and it just didn't do it for me. I'm too jumpy to just sit there and wait.
Last year, I called 6 within 40 yards (my shotgun range) and 3 of those within 25 yards (my bow range). I didn't fill my tag on any of them. That's what you have to be willing to do. I can't really explain why, but it is tons more fun than shotgunning for me. I'll never go back.
Really, I've never been that good of a turkey hunter, average at best. It just takes a little more patience and no fear of rejection. I would be a much better gun hunter since I've gone to bow-only. You can't help but improve.
