I was wondering if anyone may have information on Florida turkey hunting. Has anyone used a reputable outfitter down there? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I have used and would recommend Osceola Guide Service in Anthony Fl. The outfitters name is Kelly Conley and his number is 352-867-5668. I'm not sure if he has went up on his prices this year or not, but last year the price was $1,500 for 2 1/2 days of hunting. That includes meal and lodgeing. He knows where the birds are.

That seems a bit much to hunt turkeys. I remember when turkey tags in Florida were just $5.00. Try looking at Green Swamp WMA just outside of Tampa. I was down there last year and turkeys were everywhere. I don't think it should be a problem to get on a bird. Take skeeter spray and snake boots. Watch out for the gators and I ain't jokin. It's definitely a fun and different place to hunt.
it's a long way to the top if ya wanna rock 'n' roll

I hunted Green Swamp management area after it first open many years ago. I have not hunted it in years, but I do know it gets a lot of public pressure. When I hunted it the deer population was not high, hogs everywhere, and snakes galore. I was in a cypress head one time looking for a hog that I shot with a bow and it started to rain and all the water ran off the ridges into the cypress head and the water started to rise and I had snakes everywhere. It was about like an Indiana Jones movie. I would imagine they have killed a lot of snakes off now as long as it has been open to the public. It has some very pretty woods. The head waters of the Withlacoochee river starts there in the Green Swamp. If I was hunting public land in Florida for an Osceola I would check out Richloam Management Area located in the Green Swamp as well. It located north of the Green Swamp Management Area. Richloam is not far from Brooksville (20 miles) and Dade City (14 miles). Richloam is overlook by many people and when I hunted it many years ago it had a respectable population of turkeys. You may want to contact the regional office for the Florida Wildlife Commission to check on the current turkey population. Here is some information on the Florida Osceola and turkey densities. If you look at the bottom of the page on the link it has a phone number to check current turkey populations. Sorry for being so long, hope this helps. I live not far from Richloam, but I hunt private land now days. Good luck.
