I recently bought a Mossberg 535 Tactical Turkey gun. Anyone shooting these things? Very compact and light gun and the adjustable length butt stock is nice. I'm new to turkey hunting so I'm going through a little "trial and error" getting this thing set up with shells and chokes. It came factory with a .670 ported choke. It seems to do O.K. at 25/30 yds. You can forget it at 50yds. I've tried Winchester Supreme 3.5" 2oz. #4,#5, and #6. One thing I can say about all these is they kick the crap out of you. I swear if you could shoulder a cannon and have someone light the fuse it wouldn't kick any harder than this gun does. I bought a .660 choke to try when my cheek heals up and the swelling goes down. Any info. on this gun would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a 535 last spring. i was using a strut stopper xtream, but scrapped that and got a carlsons .660 choke and some hevi-13 2-1/4oz. #6. im very glad i changed. i shot it three times the day i got it at 35 yds. i was shootin a 7" circle and didnt get less than 225 hits every shot. you aint wrong about how hard that thing kicks. after i shot mine 3 times i think i got a lil tear eyed.

I shoot the 835 tactical turkey, and ditched the factory choke and tested out the Kicks gobblin thunder, primos jellyhead, and the tru glo strut stopper extreme as well as diff shells combos! Nothing you can do about the recoil except be tough, you wont feel it when that gobbler is spittin and drummin at 25 yds!I ended up getting the best results out of the strut stopper extreme and winchester supreme elite ext range 3.5 #6! Took 4 longbeards with it last year ranging from 25-45 yds! So I dont believe I will be changing anything this spring! Hope this helps, Good luck to you!

my buddy shoots the 835 with a "gobblin thunder" and it has a INSANE pattern at 50-60 yds....his only issue is it is so tight that close range shots now become that much harder.

I bought a 535 two years ago with the thumbhole in the stock. I tried several different shells and a couple of different chokes. I loved the thumbhole stock but, it was not able to hold much of a pattern after 35 yards with any of my combinations. I killed a couple of long beards with it inside of 30 yards, but now I'm back to using my old 835 with a primos jellyhead choke and this year I'm gonna try the 4x5x7 nitro heavi shot. I've heard this is a pretty wicked set up. I love my old 835.

What shells did you shoot with this set-up in the past and how far could you kill a bird with it? I shoot an 835 with the factory extra full choke and can kill one at 50 yards using 3 1/2" Winchester Supreme #5s but have heard good things with the primos jellyhead choke. I want them to get under 30 yards but like the idea of knowing I can kill one at 60 if he hangs up.

I agree with ya Gravey. I like to have him as close as I can get him, but I just like to know I can get it done down range. I used the old factory turkey choke for years, killed alot of turkeys with it, one I even killed at 55 steps! Like a lot of folks I got on the Primos Jellyhead/ Heavi-Shot train. It pattered pretty good, actually about the same as my Factory load but with Heavi-Shot so I had more knockdown power on the longer shots. I got a box of 4x5x7 Heavi's from Nitro Rays for Christmas this year, but I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to test them yet. If they are as good as I've heard though, I doubt I'll shoot another combination. ( That is unless they come out with something better :D)
