that is a very interesting article wes
but it seemed very limited to only one brand of gun i.e remingtons and certain shells some of them discontinued
but it is still a good article

lots of factors go into play when patterning a gun
2 same guns off a production line in the same run with the same components being tested can shoot entirely different patterns due to harmonics and bore variances

and yes if something is of higher density and is of the same weight going the same velocity as a next size lower shot it will hit just as hard in porprtion to it most likely energy wise.

I don't think they make a choke with enough ports to help the 835 at all. She will kick your teeth out at the range but when a big Tom steps up it's like shooting a b.b. gun. Funny how that works, huh? \:\)

I have to agree with you there. I have an 835 and it puts a whippun on me everytime I shoot that thing. I put a ported IC choke on it and still, kicks like a mean mule, but somehow when that Tom comes in.. poof! no problem.

To fix kick problems. Put a limbsaver butt pad on it!!!! My benelli nova kicked bad until I put that on....

now a 3" feels like a lite load 2 3/4

I put one on my 835 and it definitely helps with those 3 1/2's but you still know she's there.

the jellyhead ported choke tube reduced the recoil alot on my mossberg 835!

I think it depends on the gun and the choke. I use a pure gold choke with a benelli super black eagle II, so with it's recoil system, I dont feel it much anyway, but with my old mossberg, an aftermarket choke definately reduced recoil. Supposedly, the gases come out of the ports faster, and that reduces recoil, but I have no idea how.
