that is a very interesting article wes but it seemed very limited to only one brand of gun i.e remingtons and certain shells some of them discontinued but it is still a good article
lots of factors go into play when patterning a gun 2 same guns off a production line in the same run with the same components being tested can shoot entirely different patterns due to harmonics and bore variances
and yes if something is of higher density and is of the same weight going the same velocity as a next size lower shot it will hit just as hard in porprtion to it most likely energy wise.

To fix kick problems. Put a limbsaver butt pad on it!!!! My benelli nova kicked bad until I put that on....
now a 3" feels like a lite load 2 3/4

To fix kick problems. Put a limbsaver butt pad on it!!!! My benelli nova kicked bad until I put that on....
now a 3" feels like a lite load 2 3/4 I put one on my 835 and it definitely helps with those 3 1/2's but you still know she's there.

the jellyhead ported choke tube reduced the recoil alot on my mossberg 835!

I think it depends on the gun and the choke. I use a pure gold choke with a benelli super black eagle II, so with it's recoil system, I dont feel it much anyway, but with my old mossberg, an aftermarket choke definately reduced recoil. Supposedly, the gases come out of the ports faster, and that reduces recoil, but I have no idea how.
