Well I got to fish both saturday and sunday up on the river. The fly fishing was slow but I did manage to pick up a few. (sorry no pics)The shad being pumped from the lake have these fish so full that they don't won't to hit much. There is dead shad all over the river. I can't wait for warmer weather when we start having some good hatches.

I was out there most of the day Saturday. There were dead shad everywhere. Spent most of the day getting skunked. Then I found a lucky rock to stand on in the afternoon and caught a few on BHPT, size 10 , caddis hook; soft hackles, size 14 & 16; and a Size 18 caddis hook wrapped in red wire (no idea what the name is). Everything I caught was just as fat as can be from eating shad. I really have no idea what I'm doing out there, I just have fun doing it.

Hate to be a moron, but what river? Hiwassee? Clinch?

I have often wondered if the shad kill doesn't go against you some days. I mean, looking at those overgorged stomachs, what's going to make a bursting trout want to take my nymph?

It's TPE (The Peanut Effect).

Sitting on the couch watching football after eating a huge meal, if someone puts a pile of ribs in front me I won't budge. But put a plate of peanuts at arms reach and I'm nibbling all afternoon.

Hiwassee. At any given time, I could look down and see a hundred shad either dead or floundering. In the eddys and slack water there were even more.

I have no idea why they would want to eat a tiny @ss nymph when they've got a full meal floating by. jakeway may be onto something with his TPE theory. The worst part is after they shut the generator off, the fish started taking midges in the film. Talk about aggrevating.

Now that there's funny. If it weren't for this almost-daily phenomenon, I would probably have brown hair! \:D

Yeah, TPE is definitely a factor. I'm guessing that trout are programmed to take it when they can get it. It's kind of funny when you catch a brown with a huge shad tail hanging out of its mouth on a size 22 midge. It's like, "what's the point?"

I know I said that I primarily bought this rod for mountain fishing, but with the extra fast action this thing cast as good as my medium action 5 weight and doesn't weigh near as much. It's a blast to cast and catch fish on.
