Lord, don't get me started on slot limits and their benefits. We'd just bang heads for nuthin'.

Although the deer idea is an interesting concept. If I could magically bring back to life a nice buck I've shot for the possibility of another shot at it the next year, would I? I think I'd need to try hallucinagens to even get that deep. \:D

As to the real topic, I'd hate to choose between tailwaters and the Smokies. Being from flat, tailwater land, I won't pass up a chance at a freeflowing tiny stream with brookies hungry enough to eat oversized dries.

But I'm also infatuated with the prolific hatches up there, so a trip to one of the tailwaters with a BWO, sulphur, or caddis dry is tough to pass up. Not to mention the beauty of both types of streams up there. Hey, I'm proud to be a Caney man, but let's face it, it's still just a big ditch.

Unless you hold a gun to my head, I'm choosing not to choose. I want all that part of the country has to offer, and I intend to get it whenever I get the chance.

Wait, I went WAY off topic.
I think the closest trout rivers to Knoxville are the Clinch and Holston Rivers.

I haven't fished the clinch in a while. There are some big fish in that river. How long has the slot limit been in place?

This has to be a joke.

Sorry I should not have said that. Like Hook said it would take a man a lifetime to fish all the trout water within 50? miles of Knoxville.

There are no trout in the Clinch... I thought I made that clear before.

The fishing around Knoxville is the ONLY reason I have stayed here for over 22 years....and I still haven't fished it all!!

The slot limit on the Clinch are working. The fish are bigger than they have been in the past 6-8 years. Given time we may be "back like it was" around the late 80's and early 90's. Try the Holston also for trout, smallmouth. The dams below Melton Hill, and Loudon for stripers, and of course the lakes.

Best fishing east of the Mississippi

I hear that 7mm. I lived there from 87-93. Lived off Alcoa Highway and could be at the edge of the park in 30 minutes. Fishing was tough in the park sometimes but it was the ultimate experience to be able to escape all the crowds and catch a few fish. Or you could go to the Clinch and do some combat fishing.
