I'll check into those calls. I used to have a NEF 10ga. single shot. kicked like a dang mule. If I could maybe find a 12ga I would buy one in a heartbeat. seems like lsn had some the other night.. ill check that site out.

A shotgun and a diaphragm is all you really need. My Dad takes that real simple approach, takes a diaphragm and a old 870 Wingmaster, modified choke, 2 3/4 inch shells and kills how many ever he wants to ever year. You certainly can make things much easier on yourself though lol
Ditto that. Although I do like to bring along 1 box call when it is windy or birds are far away

You don't need all of that to get started.
You don't "NEED" a vest.
You don't "NEED" a gps.
You don't "NEED" a scope!!!! I don't use one.
You don't "NEED" snakeboots strut seat (worth its weight in gold), a decoy or two just in case, Thermacell, Sawyer Permethrin
, or a rangefinder
YOu just "NEED" the basic stuff, Shotgun with turkey choke that patters well., turkey loads, turkey calls locator calls (owl or crow),camo, small gloves, half facemask, big game gun stamp and most important a place to go.
The other stuff is just things you will want to get once you figure out you like to turkey hunt. They make the hunt a little easier.
The other thing you "NEED" is a friend to take you a time or to until you know what you are doing. It takes the average turkey hunter 2-3 years to figure out how the game works.

That's a nice gun. I wish it was a little closer to home. I'm in Middle. By the time I payed the fuel bill to run over to pick that one up. I could have a new one from Walmart. heck of a deal on the gun tho.

Check the pawn shops. I was just in one earlier today in Smyrna and they had a bunch although I think they're priced high. Of course what they have on the tag and what they'd sell it for are two different things. They did have a Mossberg 835 solid black listed for $289.

$550-$650 would be a realistic number. Mossberg 535 is a good cheap shotgun that comes with fiber optic sights and comes in a bunch diffrent camo patterns for about $450. probably spend about $75 on ammo and choke( strut stopper by truglo works good in that gun.) decoys if you like the idea of carrying them around they are not a necesity. mouth call, slate, box call, owl and crow locator calls ought to be all you need probably $65. bug spray gloves and facemask your ready to go.

He is correct. You can put your calls, strikers, locators, decoys, bottle of water, snacks, Thermacell, etc. in a Wal-Mart bag and carry it in. LOL
I prefer having everything organized and readily available. Not to mention the attached butt cushion and back cushion.
