I use two different setups for the two. For cats I found some decient Abu reels (6500 I think, red w/baitrunner) mounted on a Berkley Lighting rod, heavy weight at Walmart for $60.
For Stiper I found three Okuma 45's with line counter on ebay for +/-$30. The LC really works great getting BACK to the depth the fish are running and also keeping you from hangups in riprap. My wifes LOVE them. I tell her what to let the line down to and she takes care of herself, until she catches one, HAHA. I was leary thinking they wouldnt hold up but thru three season the still work GOOD. I found some of the Lighting rods above for these at Wally for $30.

I bank fish for rock fish and I use an 8.5' medium heavy browning rod with a size 30 quantum spinning reel spooled with 20lb. fireline. It works great for long casts with heavy sinkers and still have line left for a fight.

Depends , I like to fish for big stripers with a topwater. You are doing a lot of sight casting. So if you make a bad cast you can get your lure in quicker and get ready for another cast.

Whatever you get you'd better be ready soon. It's just a matter of weeks now.
