Hey folks, Ive been looking for quite some time at a setup I could use for striper and cats. I will be catfishing alot this summer so Im not in a rush to buy. Im trying to stay relatively low as far as price, not really wanting to spend over $150 but I do want something reliable. I like the Abu Garcia reels and as far as rods go I like the CatMaxx by Bass Pro. What do you guys have to say about these? Any advice or suggestions?
Thanks

I use Abu Garcia 6500 C3's mounted on Ugly Stick Tiger rods. They do well and if I recall correctly, they'll be within your budget.

6500 c3 or c4 can not be beat. You will need the baitrunner they offer. They are rugged reels and will last forever. As far as rods I'll let someone else suggest a brand. I do prefer a longer rod for striper. I use 6'6" rods, I prefer the extra leverage provided with the longer rod.

My grandfather fished rock fish for ever and years, and him and my great uncle fished in many tournaments all over the south. All he swore by was a abu garcia with a 7 ft rod. Never take a spinning reel with him. He always said dont take a toothpick to a swoard fight!! lol miss the old man.
