I just did some quick cipherin on the tackle. The lure is close to 100 years old. The rod is about 50 years old. The reel (Just guessing, here) was maybe 70 years old. The line was new-no more than 20 years old. The fisherman and guide could total about 135 years.

The bass was maybe 18 months.

BTW- That lure was the forerunner of the Devil Horse and a lot of old, double prop baits. That one is handmade, handpainted and would maybe bring $250 at auction.

The rod is one of the first ones when they went from metal to glass. I wish I could have gotten the reel in the picture. I have never heard of it. There is no level wind, you did it with your thumb. When he cast it, it sounded like a John Deere tractor starting up.

When we came back in the second morning, Lloyd opened up this tackle box, one of about five, and said, "Pick out a lure."

Now look at the tail and fins on this bass. Spawning or alligator?

BW, glad you got to share time and equipment....The outfit, I have a Bronson "lashless" on a steel True Temper rod. I was given the reel in Washington years ago and out of ignorance and curiosity, tried it on a nine foot rod for winter run Steelhead. ONCE. I found out quickly why they are labeled "knucklebusters".

I beleive that was a Bronson, anti-backlash on a glass Shakespeare rod. His goal was to catch one fish on that rig. He had a metal rod and I just didn't feel right letting him use it on those bass.

After that one fish, he went to a spinning rod with 20# braided and whatever lure I handed him. \:\) His third fish of the trip was between 7-8#.

Then I found out he had 20 bass over 12# to his cedit. He lives, you see, just 15 minutes the Big O. He told me he won a club tournament with five that weighed 48#

BTW- In regards to an email as to why Lloyed didn't smile. He can't. Most of his facial muscles have been cut. But he was [censored] sure smiling inside.

He can't swallow, he manufactures no saliva. He is fed through a feeding tube.

But he can dam sure cast into a tea cup at 30 yards.
