Have been receiving reports from some friends that there was a massive shad kill throughout the Tennessee River. Anyone seen anything or been affected?

Yes there has been a massive shad kill on the KY lake portion of the TN river.

Its the probably the best excuse I've heard for the pitiful sauger bite recently.

We had one nice catch just before the cold weather and now - nothing. How long will it take to straighten out?

As long as they've been down, I'd say the sauger will turn around soon. I've always had better luck at catching big sauger in February anyway. I'm hearing reports of big sauger well into March in most years but by then I'm in bass mode.

There was about a 4 day stretch just before that big rain a couple weeks ago that the sauger were on fire according to a few people I've talked to. The guy at Cuba Landing yesterday said the most he'd heard anybody catching in the last few days was 4. \:\( Which is why I crappie fished.

Radar,

We kept 28 Friday with about 50 throwbacks!, 3 Sunday with about 15 throwbacks, and 7 this afternoon with about 10 throwbacks.

There bellies are about to bust they're so full. Some of 'em have as many as 8 shad in them.

Caught several big 13-15" sows Friday. Since then the biggest has been about 12".

I found a big school of hybrid today in 30' of water. So I killed quite a bit of time on them. I just couldnt help myself. They're a blast on the crappie gear. Also caught another largemouth around 3 1/2.

Big shad kills on the Tennessee River is nothing uncommon. I see several each year. Usually several Drum and Carp mixed in with them.
