A friend of a very close friend has pancreatic cancer. It is inoperable. He feels good enough to fish and is going to be down at White Oak next week. He and Robert are both antique lure collectors. Big time collectors. Robert invited him to come for a few days.

He wants to fish a few hours each day with some of his old lures. He asked Robert, "Can that goofy kid from TN come fish with me?" I met him once, a year or so ago and we did a lot of laughing. I guess he is maybe 75.

I leave Monday morning. My goal is to have him on 30 bass over five with his antique lures. I hope to do it in three hours.

Please, one time, let the weather cooperate.

Man, I've got a few friends that have succumbed rather quickly to pancreatic cancer. I think Patrick Swayze is beating it's azz, but it's a tough road. I'll give up all the fish on my next trip for the gentleman to catch them. Good luck.

Remember the big dead tree with a ribbon on it... there's a hump nearby. I have been TOLD it's a really good spot.

Have fun... do good.

P.S. Can I have your "old" 2008 truck?

And immortalized in a great publishable story. What a "hook" as it were, catching with those antique lures. He will have a field day!

Simms, the tree went with the last tornado. But the hump and stump is still there...and holding fish. And they already sold my 2008 truck.

I'll work as hard on this trip as I ever have. I even waived all guide fees. I'm bringing in a special boat that will allow him to sit comfortably and yet still let me get back in the timber. I can't wait to look in his tackle box. I can just see him catching one in open water on a South Bend Itzy Doozy.

Simms, this one came off the hump, right at 9.5 pounds. Not bad for a four-year old lake.

Football Hunter-yes, it is open to the public...for a fee. We charge $700 for two people for a full 24 hours, noon to noon. That price includes boat, room and meals. You have a choice of five lakes. Best bet is to take our advice on which lake. We are taking bookings until May 1. You can also combine a turkey hunt with fishing if you have deep pockets.

Last morning I fished down there...back in early Dec. I had a 17-year old girl on her second fishing trip ever. We had about 25 bass in the 4-6 pound range. Feb and March are two of the best months.

5.5 hours and I don't care how many times you stop or how fast you drive. No matter what I do, it is 5.5 hours. My house to the lodge is 356 miles. I stiopped and ate breakfast one morning and it was still 5.5 hours.

Just let us know what you want to do and we'll design a package for you.

Yes, there is a website but I can't find it here. You google White oak Plantation in Al, you'll get it. But I suggest you call them and talk with a live human being. Week day or weekend should not make a lot of difference, can sleep 30 plus. 1-334/727-9258. You need to talk to Robert. Be sure and tell him exactly what you wish to do, i.e., bream, bass, combo, turkeys, combo sporting clays etc.
