Old Hickory gets started next Sunday with the first shoot of the year. We'll have a fire going and should have food for sale if Al shows up \:D

There are classes for all skill levels (including hacks like me) and we always have a lot of fun. I'll be out there after church bundled up like the Michelin man.

See http://www.ohlbc.com for directions and more info.

Cool, I'll see if I can get out there. Might be a good way to get my feet wet. Are they giving lessons?

The club pres gives lessons, but not at the event. His number is the one I PM'd you a few weeks ago.

There are lots of shooters who are more than willing to help, but you might now want all their opinions \:D

Get a pin that's good to 25yds and shoot it for fun. That's a great way to get a start and get accustomed to shooting game animals in the woods. The course will have 20 targets with a lot of deer.

I've kept that message you sent. I want to take some lessons to get better. I will probably shoot some with my new bow before participating in a 3d.

I'll be back home in Kentucky next weekend finishing the setup on my bow, so I won't be able to make it. I plan on being at the next one, though.

Rich - I'm stomping a mudhole in you next time I see you for the mess you've started.

Dee is president, but Marcia and Frog are in charge \:D

I won't have the pretty bow out there. I'll be shooting this one... \:D

UTG - yes they do. There are a lot of classes, but each shooter is placed in one based upon experience and equipment.

There are two primary classes for hunting setups. In each you have to have fixed pins and a stabilizer of less than 12". They are also by far the two most popular classes at the Old Hickory shoots.

The first is Bow Novice. The max distance in that class is 30yds, with an average shot of about 23yds. It's a great place to start.

Next is Hunter. The max distance moves out to 40yds with an average of about 32yds.

You can also shoot for fun, which is what a lot of folks do. You can pick any stake you want and shoot whatever shot looks like fun to you. Most 1st timers will shoot the first tournament for fun b/c they're intimidated or nervous (I know I was). By the end they've gotten to know who they're shooting with, asked lots of questions and figured the game out. The next tournament they shoot Bow Novice and get a bit of the competitive fire burning. Many stay in Bow Novice for a year or so then move on to Hunter.

I compete in Open (long stabilizer, scope, etc.), but I shoot fun every now and then. If I make a change to something on my bow or if I'm trying a new release I'll shoot fun.

One of the best archers in the world lives here in Nashville and he shoots the fun class.

It really is a lot of fun with a great group of people!

I used to shoot at Henry Horton when they had tournaments there in the early 90's .Back then I shot fingers class . \:\) Then I got into bass tournaments ,and the money lured me away from archery tournaments .

Cool, my Daiwa Zillion matched up with my Shimano Cumara rod is itching to get out. Anyways, who is that archer that is one of the best?

Chance Beauboeuf, used to own Chance's Archery in N'ville. It was Phillip's before he bought it. I wish his shop was still open.

He won Vegas indoor 3yrs in a row, which had never been done, and a bunch of other worldwide tournaments. If it's a big indoor tournament he's won it at least once. He does well on the ASA 3D tour too. You'd never know it if you met him though.

He shot Hoyt for a long time, but switched to PSE in '07 or maybe '06.

Chance just won the Lancaster Archery Shoot. This past week. I just saw that on archery talk.

He is a very good archer. Met him a couple of times when I was working at Hunts. He came in and shot on our indoor range. He is one of the most focused archers I have seen shoot. And I have seen several top archers shoot.

ASA speed rule is 280fps + 3% tolerance for chrono variance. The speed rule does not matter if you shoot the fun class at any of the local shoots I've attended.
