jdyer if you ask 10 people on how to build one you will get 10 ways of doing it
I like 8 inch pipe about 4 feet long
it will hold almost a full bag of corn
But I have also used those big water jugs you see on coolers and even a phone switch cover
best tip I can give you is make sure its secure
I have pics of feral hogs carting away one of mine

it looks good...but....i use the same top on a pvc feeder and the squirrals keep chewing through them. so the thin plastic may not be worth it, due to that. i will have to go strictly pvc to keep the squirrals from chewing them up.

Built three this year for the first time.
Used 6" pvc like everyone else said.
Put a cap on the top unglued for filling the feeder.
Instead of putting a $30 fitting on the end though, I found that with very little tweaking the adapter for a gas water heater vent will screw right onto the end of your pvc and serve as a funnel.

Then just mount an inch or two from the ground, strapped to a tree.

Deer and turkeys loved them. Wish my free pvc had been a little longer. Three foot section only holds about 2/3 bag of corn (so about 35 pounds).

BTW, krylon makes an ultra-flat paint for doing camo that makes these thing hard to spot in the woods if you think someone might walk off with them. You never know.

I'll try to post pics asap. Never got around to taking any so I'll carry camera with me next time I check the camera on this property.

I use a 3 or 4" pvc and put a cap on the top and mount to the tree about 2" from the ground. The corn flows out around the pipe and stops after a small amount is on the ground. As the corn is eaten more falls out. The trick is to not mount it to far off the ground.

put a damper joint in to adjust the flow.It works well. Put a spring behind the PVC so as the animals head hits it , the PVC moves to release more food:)
